Question about Honda CB 100 Motorcycles

Okay on hard or packed road surface, feels like flat on rear or loose wheel on gravel or soft surface.very hard to ride.Using about 22 psi, less pressure aggravates the problem? This is a CT 110 1982 model.I had to use a different choice in order to fill out the form.

Jack up the back of the bike. Grab the wheel and see if you can move it back and forth. It sounds like your wheel bearings might need replaced.

My truck won't come out of 4 wheel drive unless I stop and back up. Any suggestions?

from you description it appears that you use 4wd while on hard surface. driving 4wd on hard surface does not allow the wheels to slip and even out the torque build up in the axles and drive lines. This in turn jams the teeth of the transmissions and will not allow the selector to shift. By driving backwards you are releasing this torque binding. To stop the problem only use 4wd on snow,ice gravel,sandy and grass surfaces where the wheels are allowed to slip. Never on hard surfaced roads. Beside causing excessive wear in the transmission and tyres it increases fuel consumption

After stopping theres a jolt in the drivetrain

check that you are not in 4 wheel drive H and on hard stand ( hard surface ) The jolt may be from drive train torque wind up releasing on the stop motion . wheel drive should only be used on loose surfaces --- mud--gravel---snow --ice or any surface that will allow the tyres to unwind the torque build slipping

The factory recommends 15PSI. I usually run 12PSI.

Depends a lot on what tires you have and what kind of "track" you are riding. You typically want a firm tire (more pressure) for a soft surface and a softer tire (less pressure) for a hard track but there are always exceptions depending on the details of the track and what tire you have mounted up. If you are riding a track with a lot of hard braking bumps or firm ruts or even tree roots (if you ride trails) you should run more pressure - like maybe 13-15PSI. If you run less than about 10PSI you risk pinching the tube and getting the rim damaged from sand intrusion between the bead and the tire which can cause a lot of problems unless you change your tires frequently and run multiple bead locks. To run really low pressures usually means you don't have the best tire on your bike for the conditions in my opinion.

To simplify:
Soft track, hard tire - run 12-15PSI
Hard track, soft tire - run no less than 10PSI

What is the four wheel drive switch for??

The switch is to put the vehicle into four wheel drive for off-road and increased traction on snow and ice.

Tire pressure for an '02 audi 1.8 quattro with 215x55x16 wheels

I recommend 34 PSI front and rear, this gives a good ride and acceptable tire wear and good road handling, the factory calls for less but the tire manufacturers recommend 34 PSI

Tire pressure in manual is 21psi, front and 22psi for rear. Do I need to increase this for on road riding? Pressure seems low for on road riding?

Here's my take on tire pressures and when they need adjusted, I wrote this a while back for someone with a Honda African Twin, so this should help:

Manufacturer's recommendation – Short distance city riding below 100kph. Light off-road use ie. Small rocks, gravel. If the weather/road conditions vary a lot.

30% above recommended pressure – High speed road use. Long distances in warm weather on good quality roads. Go 40% if the conditions are the same but the bike is fully loaded with carriers.

15% below recommended pressure – Short distance riding in cold winter temps. Short distance on wet roads. Off-road, average gravel/rocks and some wet mud.

40% below recommended – Slow off-road riding in very loose dirt, sand, with lots of rocks. Tires will heat up quickly if the pace is picked up which will loose grip and cause accelerated wear.

60% below recommended – Very slow, loose dirt, deep sand (dunes). If tires slip on the rims you need to increase pressure.

My mantra is all about keeping a close eye on tire pressures and adjusting them to suit the conditions rather than keeping strictly at the manufacturer's settings. Starting out my riding career on a BMX, tire pressures can be the difference from landing a perfect jump and falling on your face. Therefore, with a motor attached, it is even more important to get it right – personally I think the 'feel and grip' is more important than the pressure number – regardless if that causes tire wear.

When turning in 4 wheel drive it feels like my tires are flat or are dragging. is this normal?

When you have 4x4 engaged, you take the differentiation out of the equation to allow the tires to turn at different speeds. With no differentiation between the tires, you drive train binds up. What you are feeling is the binding forces overcoming the traction of the tires on the road surface and relieving the stress on the components.

If you are feeling this binding, you are driving on a hard, high-traction surface which does not require 4x4. In loose, slick or low-traction situations, your tires slip slightly so the drive train does not build up stress on components.

Using 4x4 in situations where it is not necessary can lead to premature failure of locking hubs and other driveline components.

When i have my 4 wheel drive engaged making turns

If you are in 4WD, and not on a slippery surface, the tires may be having an effect called "scrubbing" where the tire on the outside of the turn is not rotating at the same rpms as the tire on the inside of the curve. I have noticed this on my jeep wrangler in 4wd.

Using 4wd on dry or non-slippery surfaces can cause this problem, and also will cause excessive tire wear.

Try the same manuever on a gravel road or a ice patch (it's been in 90s here in Texas, so good luck on that one) and see if it is improved.

Also, would probably expect a little more effort to steer when in 4wd because the universal joints or CV joints are not in perfect alignment during a turn.

Rear brakes grabbing on 95 Corsica

Itcould be that the brakes installed on your car were not the Original Manufaturers (OEM) recommended pads and/or shoes on the back and front. Or only two of the brakes were replaced. when installing breaks install the OEM's or original breaks for your Corsica.
If a given set of replacement linings are more aggressive than the original, the brakes may feel grabby or upset front-to-rear brake balance increasing the risk of the front or rear brakes locking up on wet or slick roads especially if the more aggressive linings end up on the back brakes. On the other hand, if the replacement linings are less aggressive than the original linings or have less fade resistance, the vehicle may require increased pedal effort and take longer to stop than before. And if these linings end up on the front brakes, they may increase the risk of rear wheel lockup, too.
