Question about 1979 Harley Davidson XLH 1000 Sportster
Well, Hello Chickie. I'm the guy giving what I hope is good information to you for your honey. I've got some bad news on this one. To remove the rear engine mount, you have to split the engine cases. You don't know how many times I've seen guys put the engine cases together and leave the rear mount off thinking they could put it on after getting the cases together.
However. Once you take all the cams and the transmission out of the cases, there isn't that much to splitting the cases. One thing to remember however. Look the bolts along the very bottom of the cases. Notice which direction they are put into the case, ie. what side the nut is on. If they are installed backwards, you'll wrestle with the engine for a couple of hours trying to get it back in the frame and it will not go back in because of the bolts hitting the frame. Yes, it is that tight.
