Question about Harley Davidson FXR Super Glide Motorcycles
First, check your spark plugs. You said it was hard to start, you could have fouled a spark plug or since Shovelheads did not come from the factory with valve stem seals, oil could have run down the valve stem and dripped onto the spark plug fouling it.
If the plugs look good, it could be a vacuum leak at the "rubber bands" on the intake manifold. They do dry rot over the years and you might have a leak.
Or, it could be that the carb needs pulling, disassembling, and cleaning. Start with the least expensive thing first and work up.
