Question about 1997 Suzuki VZ 800 Marauder

1 Answer

Ok I just stopped and filled my gas tank up with wawa gas (a brand of gas I try not to put in my bike) but since I had no choice I did use premium gas which I try to use in my bike at least 1 time a month if not more. I took off from the gas station and came up to my first stop light in which I had to QUICKLY downshift. When I came to neutral the temputure light and oil light both flashed once but did not stay on. About 5 miles down the road I reached another stop light but had already stopped for a couple without the problem duplicating, however at this one it did. Light turned green i drove on and lights did not come on again. I did notice that if I would slowly downshift the lights would not flash but when I was forced to downshift fast it would. Again the lights do not stay on and I have only seen the flash happen 3 times in the last 15 miles of driving. ANY IDEAS ON WHAT THIS COULD BE?

When filling the tank, stop filling when the pump clicks off. It sounds like you are overfilling the tank getting gas onto the built in evaporator.

Just stop filing when pump clicks off.

I have a 2001 zx6r. It ran fine yesterday, no problems. I filled up tank with premium gas and today it bogs under load at about 5k rpms. In neutral it revs fine. Could gas affect it like this?

unlikely unless you put diesel premium in the tank
run the fault codes and check for problem EVAP system not venting the tank properly

The new bike leaks fuel in overflow hose only drive 10kM after bought

If the tank was completely filled with cool gas, and the bike was parked in the sunshine, the gas in the tank warming up may have expanded, pressurizing the gas tank. Gas caps are supposed to be vented to allow air to enter as the fuel is used, but they don't stop the tank from having pressure inside. Try removing the gas cap to see if the leaking stops.
I suggest that you call the dealer that you bought it from and confirm the problem..

What brand of gas is the best for a 2003 nissan sentra. Is chevron a safe choice?

some prefer a name brand although I always fill up after 8 AM in the morning at my local station. The reason is the tanks are filled at 7AM at the station I go to giving me the satisfaction no moister from a very low underground tank will get into my gas tank when I fill up. All fuel tanks receive moister in their tanks. The tanks are electronicly read from inside the filling station. They have alarms that sound if too much moister is inside and shut the picticular tanks pump down. Some times they do not shut down for many reasons. One is a over ride switch incase that tank is the only one left with fuel in it especially on a holiday weekend. It has happened to me a few times causing my car to throw codes from the computer and also stalling out a few miles from the gas station after filling the vehicle up. That is why I choose to fill up mine after the station gets their fill up

I only put priemum gas but I was woundering if it was bad gas that's been sitting for 2 years from the prevous owner.

If you are not sure, try draining your fuel tank and make sure its empty.

For bikes, unleaded or premium gas works just fine.

Try also to change oil.

Can you put fuel cleaner in your gas tank? my bike runs fine then it stalls and sometimes it won't start. I just bought the bike and the owner had it setting for 2 years in his garage can it be bad gas?

Hello shawn...Yes indeed gasoline can degrade over time. That can lead to a number of problems, ranging from hard starting, to rough running, to no starting at all...If your bike was stored for 2 years the gasoline in it has degraded beyond use. Even if the gas was treated with stabiliser before it was will still degrade in 10-12 months, if not sooner. I'm suprised your bike will even start. I suggest you drain ALL the gas out of the tank, Rinse and refill with fresh gas, drain your carbs as well...the stale gas has most likely clogged the pilot jets, draining the carb bowls will help.
Go to your parts store and buy a can of "Seafoam" pour 1/2 of it in with your fresh gas..use the other 1/2 on your next tank of gas.
Replace fuel filter after 1st tank, the seafoam will dislodge any debris that was in the fuel tank. It will also clean the combustion chambers and carb jets. Check your carb boots for any cracks or detoration that would cause a vacuum leak. Replace your spark plugs. If your bike is still running rough after this, then the carbs will need to be removed and cleaned and/or rejetted.
Good luck..i hope this helps, please rate me a fixya.

Bike has being lieing up for 2 years and iv tried to get it started with some damp start and choke but it only seams to run for a very short period. when you open the throtle it just dies its doing my head...

Drain the carburetors. There should be a screw on the lower side of each CARB float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Is there any water or trash in the bowl? Drain a cup of gas from the tank. Is there any water or trash in the cup? Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, (not all bikes have a water trap bowl). Remove the tank and dump the old gas. Refill and use premium gas. Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carbs to fill with gas. Install new stock NGK spark plugs and try to start the engine. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetors from the engine.

FOR EACH CARB > Remove the float bowl and clean the entire
CARB with a spray CARB cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the CARB. Remove the idle screw and the air screw on the outside throat of the CARB and spray into the screw holes as well.
Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two screws down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each screw one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the
CARB back together, clean the air filter and install the CARB. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. INSTALL AN IN-LINE FUEL FILTER.

If the inside of the tank is rusty then get a liquid liner.
Google “ kreem fuel tank liner “ or go to www.

Regular fuel causing engine problems?

I've never heard of anyone having issues like that from lower octane, and I never have with my carbed bike. I'd rather think you got a bit of water somewhere...possibly in the regular fuel...or it was already in the tank and the fuel is just a confusing factor. Use a little dry-gas and try it again.
