1989 nissan pickup 4 cylinder when i turn the key to crank the engine i hear a click sound at the starter what could the click sound be?

could be battery . It needs a huge amount of charge to turn over the starter motor. It may work the headlights but be unable to turn the starter motor.
Suggest get battery tested at a battery seller to see if battery is really ok .
The click is most likely the solenoid on the starter motor clicking on.
You might be able to get someone to run jumper leads
Note +ve to + ve and negative to negative !
from their car while the engine is running and their car is not moving !
Wait 10 minutes
Then try to crank over your car engine .

I jump started a 4wd vehicle a month ago from my car and it took about 10 minutes to get enough charge in it to crank over the engine !

My 2008 chevy Silverado LS won't start I just hear a clicking noise when I try to crank it and the battery seem to be fine

The click sound is the starter selinoid. you can attemt to bypass the selinoid by jumping the two big wires on the starter together and see if the starter spins. But it sounds like your starter is burned up. Time to replace it.

When I engage the ign key to start the eng., I get a clicking sound. My guess is the Bendix? I've had to turn the key 2-3 times for the past year before the engine will turn over & start.

sorry to tell ya this sounds like the starter is bad , not too bad though only two bolts and two wires to change it (once you access it) the click you hear is the bendix solinoid clicking in but the switch inside the solinoid is not giving power to the starter motor, the telltale for this is it did'nt happen overnight , you may be able to get it started once or twice more by having someone hold key to start posisition and sharply striking starter with WOODEN end of hammer handle but that's only gonna let you get it started enough to get it someplace dry to replace starter

Assuming you've checked the battery for a possible short and both the battery and the starter for loose connections, no click sounds like a faulty starter solonoid, which could work intermittently.

Honda accord will not start at all i hear is a clicking sound headlights and everything else seems to be working

The clicking you hear is made by the starter solenoid.
First check the connections to the battery for corrosion and make sure they are tight. Otherwise this is usually caused by a low battery or a battery that can no longer take a load. You may have enough power for your other systems to work but the amps required by the starter are far higher than any of the other systems.
The battery can be load tested by most auto parts stores for about $10. If the battery is fine the next step is checking the cables to the starter for breaks or corrosion. lastly the starter solenoid or starter could be faulty.

Car won't start, battery fine, just hear clicks

Even though the lights work, the battery may still be just short on power to turn the motor over thus the clicking. Try charging the battery or jumping, if you still get a clicking it would be the starter solenoid. Considering the year you may just want to replace the whole starter.
