Which side of engine is number 1 piston

It depends on the manufacturer. If you indicate what brand and model car you have and what engine is fitted we can then tell you.

I took the piston out and didnt watch how the piston goes in the cylinder.its got two holes on 1 side does it go with them toward exhaust side or the intake side?

i can 100% tell you that the two windows go on the inlet side of the barrel so they face the carburettor, they are ports for letting the fuel air mixture into the crankcase its known as piston porting when a piston has these holes very popular with yamaha in the 80's

Need info on knock sensor for Acura 3.5rl 2002.code p0330 bank 2. Location?

the knock sensor is located on a v 6 engine in the valley at no 5 piston position
there is another sensor directly opposite on bank 1 at no 2 piston position
for general information if your engine is not v 6 on a 4 cyl they are at no 1 and between 3 and 4 cylinders on the inlet manifold side and on a v 8 engine they are between 2-4 and 6-8 exhaust side and between 1-3 and 5-7 on the exhaust side

Timing in my car off

looking at the front of the engine the no.1 cylinder is the first one closest to the front of engine, if it is in a V type layout, then it is the closest on the right side. You should be able to find tdc by looking at the marks on the harmonic balancer. You also have to be sure that it is on the compression stroke and not the exhaust stroke.

Volkswagen transporter 2 5 tdi white smoke

Hi, Luke

White smoke from the exhaust is typically oil burning, caused by, worn valve seal(s) - worn or broken piston ring(s) or a broken head gasket, thus allowing excessive oil in to the combustion chamber, but then most auto shops already know this and would require major engine dis-assembly to truly diagnose this issue.

Hard starting could be oil fouled spark plugs, a result of the same issue.

As a side note: I would take a friend who is somewhat mechanically inclined with you to "your workshop" to engage the person(s) to get an in-depth explanation as to how they checked your piston.

Do not purchase a fuel pump or that repair on an assumption, be sure

One of the tell tale signs of a fuel related issue is black smoke...

I replaced the transmision.i had the distributor out to instal the filler tube.i turned the fly wheel to bolt torque converter. now i cant get it in time. any sugestions?

u have to find #1 cylinder compression stroke, piston at top of cylinder both valves closed. Piston position can be found by removing #1 spark plug and inserting a long screwdriver into hole and rotate engine slowly by hand until screwdriver is pushed out the most. There are two strokes that piston is extended these are exhaust stroke with exhaust valve open and compression stroke both valves closed. Valve position in relation to piston position can be found by removing valve cover on #1 cylinder side. once position is attained point rotor towards #1 cylinder. The best way to find #1 cylinder is to call autozone or comparable and they can tell u based on your engine. hope this helps please rate me
