Question about 2005 kawasaki VN 800 Vulcan Classic

1 Answer

I have a 2006 Vulcan 900 Classic LT. Every so often it will seems like it floods and hesitates when shifting to second gear. After feathering the throttle it will clear up and then seem fine. Any ideas what would cause this?

It seems to do after initial start, if I hadnt used the bike in like a week. If I start and wait for idle to drop down doesnt seem to hesitate then. But will sometimes stall when downshifting coming to a stop.

It is only hesitating when shifting to second gear? Does it only do it when it's cold? Or does it do it after it has ran for a while?

They are just cold blooded. Meaning that it takes them a while to get warmed up. The hesitation is normal when you are just starting the engine. The stalling when coming to a stop is not normal. You might try some Lucas fuel additive. You may have a spec of debris caught in one of the jets on one of the carbs.

You may need to adjust the clutch cable tension. If it is hydraulic, you may have a slave cylinder going bad. Either way, you're about to lose the ability to change gears altogether. Get to you service station soon.

Not sure of the 900 Classic, but look to the rear of where the gear change pedal is attached to the splined shaft coming from the gearbox. Is the window there?

My battery for my 2006 vulcan 900 cant start bike every time temp outside is 32 degrees or below. Need to jump start it. But starts normally if warm temperature.

check battery connections to see if they are tight and clean. also check to see if it is proper battery for it. if it is a older battery it might be getting weak and need replaced. some auto parts stores will check them for free for you.

2002 Vulcan will not stay in second gear

It sounds like a bad shift fork, shift drum or worn dogs on the gear itself. Very labor intensive. have remove engine from the frame and split the cases.

If you don't know by looking at the service/workshop manual, take it to a specialist suspension place. You could do more harm than good.

Keeps jumping out of second gear. Tore down the

The gears ARE probably fine. The problem is a slightly bent shift fork. Since the engine is apart I would STRONGLY advise you replace the shift fork. If nothing else it is cheap insurance that you won't have to replace it four weeks later because it won't shift into first. I have replaced shift forks that looked perfectly good but were bent such the you couldn't get into 2nd gear. Looks can be deceiving.
