The only "detents" that I know of on a transmission are basically small "dimples" in the shifter cam and they are not adjustable. If you're having trouble with the tranny, it's being caused by something other than the "detents". If you neutral light doesn't work correctly, it's either the bulb or the neutral switch.

1997 jeep cherokee just started while wife was driving it kicked into passing gear and you have to rev high to get it to shift then once in high gear if you press on gas to much it kicks back into passing...

well disconnect it, and make sure tranny end is full 100% retracted
now drive, does A/T work good and not kickdown now.
yes, then the cable is bad , rusted ,frayed inside or sticking.

Could you be more specific. Is this a manual tranny or automatic? If manual does it go in, then kick back out, or will it not go in at all?

Hi I have a 2004 dodge ram 1500 it was stuck in park I broke the selector cable I change it for a new won but now it does not go all the way to L gear it stops at 2 and when in drive I try to put in...

I have very little experience of auto trannies but those I have worked on had an adjustable cable so the cable length can be changed so the gearbox and gear selector detents coincide.

If there is no adjustment perhaps something got bent or maybe a spacer was forgotten or missed...

Hi, make sure your lever is adjusted to your foot. You can turn the linkage arm adjuster up or down to get a better throw on the lever. If you don't wear boots when riding, this is always a problem on a Kawasaki due to the positive neutral finder. The fist question you get when you call the Kawasaki Hotline is if the rider wears boots or not.
If adjusting the lever doesn't help the problem is internal. Under the gear change cover the items to check would be the pawl that rotates the drum and the detent arm and spring. If the edge of the pawl is worn, it won't move the drum far enough. If the detent arm or spring isn't working, it will want to drop into a false neutral. I've had very good luck by removing all of the parts and polishing them, removing any burrs and replacing the springs. If the problem isn't found under the cover in the gear change area then the only other solution is to pull the motor apart and inspect the tranny itself.

Hi i got a 1992 chevy silverado with a thm700r4 tranny, now i just had it pulled and replace the front pump seal, pump bushing and a couple other seals, put it back in and now when i put it in drive, it...

First check and verify the Detent cable is hooked up and not broken or disconnected. Have you done that? if so then you will need to adjust the cable. Below is a link to a how to page on the whole procedure.

Revtech 5 speed tranny. Transmision some times will get stuck in inbtween 5th gear and 4th gear, I would have to try and shift up and down from 5th to 4th, 4th to 5th and some times it would shift down on...

Sounds more like a shifter pawl problem. I'm not familiar with the RevTech tranny but it should be very similar to the original H-D tranny. The shifter pawl has to be adjusted so that it's got equal travel in both directions. If you're trying to adjust it. Put the tranny in neutral. Now lift the shifter lever until you feel the pawl engage the pin in the shifter drum. Then go back to the middle of the movement range and depress the shift lever until you feel the pawl contact the other pin. The lever should move about the same distance in each direction. If not, the shifter pawl needs to be adjusted. On some bikes, it take some special tools to be able to get to the adjuster. The adjuster is on the left side just in front of the lever that connects to the shifter pawl shaft sticking out of the transmission.

Had Tranny rebuilt,Shift solenoids replaced. Still shifts too often on highway from OD down to 4th. could be VSS? also, OBD showing incorrect engine...maybe frayed wires or ECM bad?

first check the detent cable from the trans to the accelorator is is out of adjustment. move the adjuster (((( one ))))) click at a time. mark where it is first then go in the same direction if it gets better keep going till it's right if it gets worse then start at the original spot and go the other won't need to go too many clicks.let me know

93 chevy 1500 4wd trans. shift problems.

See if the tranny has an exterior modulator valve. If so remove the vacuum line and see if there is tranny fluid in the line. It will be located on the pasenger side rear of the tranny. What's happening is the engine is sucking tranny fluid through the vacuum line directly into the intake and it doesn't burn well.

Transmission wont shift

check the kickdown/throttle valve cable. It may be bound up and stuck in the maximum position giving you extremely late shifts.

There ISN"T any modulators or vac lines on any Chrysler automatics
