Question about 2001 Suzuki DR 200 SE

1 Answer

2003 suzuki dr200se will not idle runs great if you keep it above idle. Removed carb, took it apart sprayed jets with carb cleaner. Reassembled and now will not fire. No gas??? Checked everything I can think of. What could I have done wrong on reassembly? Never worked on diaphram type carb. Is there anything special about reassembly?

If the machine wont idle but the jets are clear, it is possible that you overlooked the carburetor body. If the passageways in the carburetor body are blocked , the machine still will not idle until you blow the body clear. Either there is still dirt in the carburetor, or the intake manifold is cracked or separated in a way that is causing too much air to get into the cylinder. perhaps a closer inspection is in order.

It would not start at all. I checked the spark and it was fine. The spark plug was replaced with a new NGK DR8EA gaped at 0.028". I replaced the gas in the tank and cleaned the carburetor. It started easily last Thursday but Monday morning it would not start at all or even hit. I removed the spark plug and it was completely dry. The Idle air adjustment cannot be fine tuned while the carburetor is installed. There is not enough room. Why would it run and start good one day and then not at all two days later?

Check that the vacuum line that goes from the right side of the carburetor to the back of the fuel petcock is still attached. If the line is cracked or broken fuel will not flow. If you switch the petcock to prime position this should flow fuel to the carburetor,

First, try to avoid ethanol. It melts carb lines, and can goo up small passageways. Get some good gas and try again. Hi test if necessary. Check your specs, maybe the bike requires hi test.
Taking apart and cleaning involves soaking in fresh carb solvent to clean the small passageways. Is there an air cleaner? It may be clogged, test with it off.

My zxr400 will not rev and carbs are clean

Are you sure there clean? did you dissasemble yourself?
I had similar issue and i 1. removed carbs 2. drained float bowls 3. removed main jets
I soaked main jets in carb cleaner, then blew all passageways with carb spray, then sprayed carb spray through all passageways in the carbs, i checked all rubber diaphragms for cracks especially the float bowl ones, my main problem was old varnished , gel like fuel traces which had built up from bike being idle over winter.

Once i completed this i reassembled and the bike idled steady and also revved cleanly to 15k revs, you might also want to check your fuel filter as it can effect flow rates if clogged with old varnished fuel

Took apart carb cleaned and now there is no mid or high range

did u install new gaskets, the engine might be sucking air from outside the carbs. u can use a propane torch (not light) spray a little around outside of the carbs, see if engine sounds different, if it does... leaky gasket.. u might check there is no unplugged vaccum hose.

I have a 790r. I have worked on small engines a long time. I took the carb apart and cleaned it-it set for 2 years. I reassembled it and now it starts but when I pull the throtle it dies, or won't rev up....

It may not be your carb at all. I had a Stihl that was doing the same thing. I ended up replacing the fuel lines and the filter (in the tank). It ran great after that. Hope it helps!

2003 V Star 650. Had fule pumping out of air cleaner box

you shouldnt have to resync the carbs as long as you dont touch the mixture screws or the screws for the throttle blades. you wont have to pull the jets completly out to clean them just spray the heck out of all the orifaces with carb cleaner once you have them pulled apart. Also whe you put it back together make shure the carb seal to the engine and airbox are tight with no leaks, this will make it run bad also
