Question about 1994 Honda CBR 900 RR Fireblade

1 Answer

Hi, Just bought a 1994 CBRR 900 last week. Battery was poor, tested it and verdict was sulphating. Therefore i replaced it, went for a 5 hour ride yesterday and had the lights on all the time, did over 200 miles. Bike died while riding and would not start as the the new battery was dead. Charged it up and the bike started 1st time and brought it home. I am just wondering if I should not have the lights on for extended periods of time or if there could be a problem with this bike? Many thanks in advance for taking the time to read this message Kind Regards John

It sounds like a problem with the charging circuit. You should be able to ride with your lights on!
The first thing to do is put a multimeter set to DC Volts across the battery with the engine running. Are you seeing more than 13.5 volts? If not there is a charging problem. It could be the regulator/rectifier or the stator windings, or just loose electrical connections if you are very lucky. I have a manual for the 900 Fireblade (I used to have a 98 Blade) so let me know if you need anymore help.

Battery holds charge for only about 1 month

You probably have a poor battery. It could be sulphated. If it is in the bike and the battery is good you will need to do a milliamp draw test to see what is draining the battery.

Kymco mongoose 250 won't start

Remove battery terminals and clean both posts and terminals
with sandpaper until you see shiny metal. The black coating is lead sulphate which has a high resistance to current flow both into and out of the battery. Have a load test done on the battery also as a cell may have dies while you were riding and the bike was running on the alternator.

Go into the settings menu and set it to "Balanced". The thing you have to remember is that they say "Up To 5 hours" not will run for at least 5 hours. It probably will last for 5 hours on idle but not if you are watching movies on it. They take a lot of processor time, therefore use a lot of power.

I have a yth20k46 and when I turn the switch it won't turn over. I replaced the battery and spark plugs. what might be the problem

I also have a YTH20K46. During last mow (last week), I tried to turn off mower and would not turn off by key. I had to put it down to choke and then stand up. It created a backfire. Today I went to start it, now won't start. It does not turn over. Hour meter has no power. Tested battery & solenoid. Power to both. Key switch works fine. Any suggestions? Just had it serviced a few months ago. Oil, gas and all other things seem fine. Checked wiring, seems fine. Nothing melted or cut. Please help!

Put some charge in the battery and start the engine.
Check the battery voltage exceeds 13.6 volts with the engine speed of about 1000RPM. If not check the regulator and altenator.

A new battery should have approx 12.62 fully charged
It could be slightly more
If you ever see 13 volts, on an old battery, it is gone

You need a min of 12.5, to do any testing of your vehicle, or you charge it
It should hold 12.5 or more for 3 or 4 weeks, then charge, if you let the truck sit

Sounds like the machine stopped charging, usually caused by a faulty rectifier/regulator or a bad connection to it.Try either charging the battery for an hour or so or you can put booster cables from your car to it and then if everything is ok you need to fix the charging system,or replace the battery[once they are sulphated they will not take a charge even if the charge system works].Check the connections to the battery as well and if you can test the tractor when it is running and see if the voltage stays between 14 and 15 volts.Let me know how you make out.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Alternator issues?

have the alternator regulator and diodes tested. sometimes when the regulators fail they allow ac voltage to go to the battery. ac voltage doesn't charge the battery properly (causes it to deep cycle and shortens its life) and causes all sorts of funny problems with the car. also make sure the battery is secured properly, vibration isn't good for them at all.
