Regrettably, yes. Harley's fuel gauges are notorious for failure. I have a wiring diagram is you'd like it but you'll have to send me an e-mail so I can attach the JPEG file and send it back. This forum will only allow a 150kb attachement and it's larger than that. Contact me at

My gas gauge wont work right.up an down but trys to work for a minute

The most common point of failure in a gas gauge is the fuel level sender in the tank, When it wears out, the needle on the gage does not work correctly and can become irregular in response.

Fuel gauge don't work

The most common problem by far is a failed fuel level sensor inside the fuel tank. It is part of the fuel pump module.

On 03 Mazda mpv I noticed when parked downhill fuel gauge drops below actual level & takes a bit of time to correct once on level ground again. Is this a known issue & is there a fix?

This is a very common occurrence, the fuel sending mechanism is inside the fuel tank, attached to an arm is a float (a device that will rise to the top of the fuel level). When parked at an upward or downhill angle, the fuel will collect to the opposite side of the tank (liquids will go to a natural level) and cause the float to move the lever. As the lever moves it rubs along a winding of wires creating a different resistance along the way. This changes the amount of current that will flow through the fuel gauge and change the level indication. When you are on level ground it will take a short period for the fuel gauge to return to the correct reading.

Fuel guage does not work

The most common cause of an inop fuel gauge is the fuel level sender inside the gas tank is defective, this causes the gauge to read empty or just move a little when filled in some cases depending on where the break in the resistor that the float moves is located.

Fuel gauge reads correctly then goes to empty

9 times out of 10 the fuel pump/level sender assembly is the cause. Sometimes the gauge pod is faulty, and there have been cases where there were either poor connector pin fit issues and/or chaffed/melted/cut wires in the harness that leads back to the fuel pump. It is an extremely common fault and would be surprised if the pump/level sender assembly wasn't the cause.

I hope this info helps!

Bike wont start ran low on fuel drove home shut down the bike now it wont start. We have spark it must be fuel where is the fuel filter located

Hi Allan.

The fuel filters are located inside the fuel tank, attached to the fuel pump. You will need to remove the tank and to turn the tank upside down (after disconnecting fuel lines and bleeding) to access the filter and pump. The procedure below is taken from Kingpin and Vegas manual at page 103. I have uploaded the manual here:2180 Vic Kingpin-Vegas Manual. The fuel tank removal procedure is described in the manual from page 103. The fuel pump is reported as common failure in this bike. Use an hand gauge to read fuel pressure in lines, that may reveal if the pump is working.Check in general the fuel delivery system. Check the clutch safety switch (see p113 in manual), check if any additional fuel cutoff or kickstand switch has been installed.

Here resource page.

Here extracts from service manuals and wiring diagram.

The fuel gauge dont work

The #1 most common cause of the fuel level gauge not working is the fuel level sending unit inside the fuel tank. The fuel tank must be dropped down and out of the Van to service the fuel level sensor.

Is there a fuse just for the gas gauge in a 2004 chevy tahoe

If your fuel gauge is not working, it is most likely because of a failed fuel level sending unit inside the tank. This is a very common problem. It is serviced as part of the fuel pump module assembly.

Carburetor problem or ? 1975 Honda CB750K, #4 Cylinder about 160 degrees F cooler than other cylinders. Compression all about 135 psig, overhauled the carbs fuel in bowl is clear and levels are #1...

Be certain that fuel is getting into the float bowl on the bad carb. If so, and the fuel level is at the correct height, the problem would be either the slide is not raising as it should, the main jet is plugged up or there is a blockage in the air clearer/manifold.
The compression is good so a valve can't be stuck. You said you have spark. The only thing left is a fuel problem or air problem. Please rate my answer. Thanks.
