Question about 2007 Yamaha Ybr 125

1 Answer

I had noticed that lately my 08 reg Yamaha YBR 125 has started to sometimes stall when sat idle with the engine running on the stand. Also the engine hum seems to dip as though it will stall, but then sounds normal again. Tonight when i went to drive home from work it would not start, it turned over but would not engage the engine and start. I kept turning over and eventually with some throttle it started. It seemed to be o.k and i pulled away, only to get a little way down the road and the engine seemed to begin to die, almost like it had run out of petrol? (but i have a full tank) Again i turned it over in vein until eventually it kicked in and i could pull away. This happened about 6 times on the way home. When i was at high speed it was fine, no problem at all, but at low speed or at a stop it wanted to cut out. I don`t think it`s a major problem, but am not sure what to check or what the fault may be? I cannot afford to put the bike in for a check up and i believe it could be something tiny, that i could sort myself! I am a motorbike novice and have no idea what to look at. My friend says it sounds like it could be muck in the carburetta? Antone offer any advice or help. Many thanks.

Are you sure the 2008 YBR even has a carburettor ? I thought the YBR went fuel injection from 2007.

If you can't afford to have it looked at by a garage, you need to buy the Haynes manual. They're very easy bikes to work on, and you'll just have to learn by doing.

Could be dirty fuel, dirty lines/carb/throttle body - check your fuel filter if you have one, and no harm to clean out the tank anyway.

Could be the plug is knackered - check the gap, and that it isn't messed up and sooty, could be the plug cap.

Could be the electrical side - start the bike on the stand, and give the big bunch of wires in the rubber jacket (behind the headlight) a good wiggle around. I had a problem there with a connector block melting, and the bike wouldn't go at all til I found it.

With the bike idling, spray something like WD40 or carburettor cleaner all around fuel intake side, esp where there are any rubber sleeves etc - if the bike revs pick up, you know there's an air leak somewhere. That would cause rough running at idle.

You need the manual ! Best of luck.

I have a 2007 YBR injection model with exactly the same problem, although it only happens in sunny conditions. The cause and fix is currently unknown.

Idling speed

Hi, Anonymous the carburetor throttle shaft wheel has two cables the cable closest to the right side of the bike is the throttle cable and the one closest to the left side is the idle cable. Right about the middle between the two is the idle adjustment bolt it faces out towards the air filter end of the carb . The engine should be at operating temperature with the enrichener off to set the idle between 950-1050 rpm. Turn the idle adjustment bolt clockwise to increases idle speed and counterclockwise to decrease idle speed. If you have access to your air fuel mixture bolt you may adjust it as well if not there is a video below on how to gain access, make sure you start with clean or new spark plugs. Gently turn the air fuel mixture bolt clockwise until it starts to bottom out "STOP" do not over tighten as it will damage the taper on the end, now back it out 2 full turns to establish a starting point start the engine and check the idle rpm's and adjust the idle adjustment bolt accordingly for 950-1050 rpm if necessary, adjust the air fuel mixture bolt 1/4 turn at a time and let the engine settle for about 10 seconds, clockwise for a leaner mixture and counterclockwise for a richer mixture you are seeking the highest rpm your air fuel mixture bolt can acquire without going past 3 full turns from bottom then readjusting the idle adjustment bolt back down to 950-1050 rpm If you can not detect any rpm change and can not stall the engine by turning the air-fuel mixture bolt all the way in then your pilot/low-speed jet is too big. Final adjustment should be made with a clean air filter mounted to the carburetor. Ybr 125 is struggling to start

Hi, Ian before testing any electrical component in the Starter Circuit it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test because your battery may have 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amps causing the battery to be faulty and must be replaced, especially "AGM" batteries.
1. Spark plugs in bad condition or have an improper gap or are partially fouled.
2. Spark plug cables in bad condition.
3. Loose wire/cable connection at one of the battery terminals, especially the "NEGATIVE" cable, check it at both ends, coil, or plug between ECM or ignition module.
4. Throttle controls not adjusted correctly.
5. Water or dirt in the fuel system.
6. Water or dirt in the carburetor.
7. Intake air leak.
8. Fuel tank vent hose and vapor valve plugged, or fuel line closed off, restricting fuel flow.
9. Enrichener valve inoperative.
10. Engine lubricant to heavy (winter operation).
11. Ignition is not functioning properly (possible sensor failure).
