Your clutch lever is held on by a simple nut and shoulder bolt. To take the lever off you first have to loosen the nut on the underside of the lever perch. Once the nut is taken off you just need to use the appropriate screw driver or spanner to remove the shoulder bolt from the top. Now loosen up the cable adjuster and pull the lever out of the slot spinning it backwards. Be careful not to lose the bushing in the lever. It is replaceable in case the lever gets sloppy in the perch. you should now be able to slide the ball end of the cable out of the lever slot.

When I try to slide the lever out it is very tight concerned I am going to damage the cable. Any ideas?

If loosening the adjustment on top is not enough, You could always unhook the other end of the cable for more slack.

Line up the perch slot with the tension bolt slot. Pull the lever back with your left hand so you are pulling on the cable. Now grab the cable with your right hand and pull on it , allow the lever to go back to the out position, but do not allow the cable to go back in the housing, slip the cable off the perch and through the slot. Now the cable should be free and loose with the clever held on only by it's slot.

My bike was running perfectly fine, until I changed the clutch lever. I got an after market shorty lever, and installed it just as the oem one. Now it will crank, but not shift without dying...?

Hi, Matt my thoughts are the shorty lever pull distance may not be the same as your Oem lever and is confusing your clutch safety switch/sensor for more information about your question and valuable "FREE" downloads that you will need please click on the links below. Good luck and have a nice day.

I have a problem with my fiat Palio 1.2 clutch, the clutch pedal is normal but when I press to change the gar ,the gar is not moving

the clutch allows a break in torque so that you can select the next gear required. You have to move the gear lever to get the next gear
if the gear lever doesn't move then the problem is in the gear selector / levers and not the clutch

I have a broken clutch bearing and icant find the spare

  1. Clutch Lever
    • As the clutch lever is operated over time, it gradually loses its grip on the clutch cable, weakening the clutch lever action until it barely moves the clutch plates. Maintain the clutch lever by ensuring the free play at the lever meets the specifications of the motorcycle's user manual, in which you will also find instructions on how to make this adjustment.
    Clutch Cable
    • Unlike the gradual onset of a clutch lever problem, the somewhat uncommon failure of a clutch cable is instantaneous. With little warning, the clutch lever goes completely slack and the clutch will be inoperable. Keeping a clutch cable well lubricated can prevent failure. However, in the event of a cable failure, a registered dealer should fit a replacement.

    Clutch Plates
    • Problems with the clutch mechanism itself normally manifest themselves in the gear change rather than in the applying and releasing of the clutch lever. Noise, chattering or slipping can be the result of misaligned or warped plates, leaks in hydraulic cables or bearings. Although more serious, if recognized early, these problems will be relatively inexpensive to repair.

Hi, I have a 2006 zx10 and I had a bent clutch rod after changing a broken clutch lever, so after installing the new one and the clutch is hooked up when i start the bike and pull the clutch in dropping...

You may have a kick stand switch which will kill the bike if you try to ride off with it down, The switch on the clutch lever is so you cannot start the bike in gear unless its in neutral. There should also be a switch that goes in the transmission that works along with the other switch(es).
If at least one of these has a fault then that may be your issue.

Look at the clutch lever switch closely. Sometimes they have a small pin that the lever touches. If that small pin broke off then the lever cannot make contact.
then look around the trans since you were in there changing a rod.

Have ttr50 2008, starts in gear, doesn't shift properly. you did not list a TTR50 so I picked the TTR125, could you still answer my questions on a TTR50 thanks!

If the bike starts when it is in gear that would indicate that the clutch switch is sticking/broken? It is located between the clutch lever and the clutch lever assembly, normally a plastic bullet shaped switch with a switch that is depressed when the clutch lever is not engaged and released when the clutch lever is pulled in. The not shifting could be down to the chain not adjusted for freeplay correctly, also lub the gear change shaft. If the chain is adjusted then check freeplay on the clutch lever normally about 10mm, but check with your handbook.

The clutch is quit tight and the gear are not changing easily and not neutral.

well if the clutch cable is adjusted all the way in, then the clutch disc, and plates would need to be changed, especialy if its hard to shift in and out of gear while running. there should be two adjustments, a top lever adjuster, and a bottom lever adjuster. always adjust the clutch componets fron bottom to top.

How do you adjust clutch on 1994 Honda 1000F CBR

Hi there,

CBRs have hydraulic clutches and therefore are adjustment free/cannot be adjusted.

If you are getting some slip, change the clutch fluid for synthetic oil. If this still does not help, it might be time for new clutch plates. Maybe go for kevlar or carbon if you're flush to help reduce the chances of slippage.

If you just want to adjust the clutch lever, you can by unscrewing the little lever on the clutch lever and bringing the lever closer to the handlebars. This will have the effect of changing the biting point (but really it is the lever that has moved).

I hope this helps you and please vote for me if so. Thanks.

Cant get transmission apart from the engine to change the clutch on a 2002 hyundai elantra

you have to release the clutch lever. take the bolt off of the clutch lever and take the lever off. this will release the clutch. I got mine loose but the only problem is how to reset it after you put the clutch back in.
