I don't understand what you're talking about, "an air filter for the oil system". I'm sure I can answer your question. Are you asking if the is an oil filter on the 883? Yes, the round thing right at the front of the engine is the oil filter.

I have a 94 softail and the dipstick poops out when it warms up

First check your oil level. You could have too much oil in the system.

You could also have a plugged breather system and pressurized oil system, crankcase and oil tank.

If you have an air filter/breather system with rubber tubes that end over the open intake area of the induction module in behind the air cleaner, sometimes people think they should not be positioned like that and bend them back and tuck them into bolt hole areas/openings in the filter backing plate casting underneath the breather tubes look like they should have the tube ends inserted into them and it the tubes are indeed bent back and the ends inserted so, this will close the tubes off and pressurize the engine internally and the oil tank and the pressure buildup will then blow the filler plug and dipstick out of the oil tank.

Oil in air cleaner on a harley davidson 2006 883 sportster

Hi Georgianna, oil leaking from your air cleaner is caused by oil carryover from the engine. For what ever reason the breather system is not seperating enough oil mist and air from the piston downstroke. There are cheap and quick easy fixes and there are more exspensive ones. Start by trying the following:
1. Run your oil level half way between the add and full mark when hot.
2. Run oil breather lines from head into a TEE fitting below carb/induction module then a single line into a mini filter under frame.
3. Purchase Arlen Ness Super Sucker.
4. Replace umbrella valves and realign oil pump
5. Upgrade oil pump and cam plate
Good luck and have nice day.

I have a 2006 xl883 and it leaks oil from the breather bolts is there any way to stop it? It gets all over the bike and on my pants and it needs a new filter but i am afraid that it will get soaked with...

Your engine vents the crankcase pressure though the large bolts that screw into the head and hold the breather on. Due to EPA regulations, the vented crankcase air must be run through the engines induction system so that this air can be burned in the engine. Since this air comes out of the crankcase, it contains an oil mist. Over time the mist will condense enough to cause a mess in the air filter. This is not uncommon. Most owners change the air filter to a K&N type air filter. This is a cloth filter that can be washed and reused over and over again. Then they keep the excess oil cleaned out of the air filter assembly. You can also buy a kit from some aftermarket sources that you can reroute the crankcase vented air away from the air filter. Try Custom Chrome for the kit.

Good Luck

Why is there oil in my air filter? where is it coming from? 2006 883 L with 2000 miles.

This is normal on the sporty. I rode a 1200c for many years and from time to time some blowback would accumulate in the filter and drip from the bottom of the filter cover. Just clean it off and enjoy the ride.

There is oil coming into the air breather on a harley 883. can't seem to locate the problem I had the same problem after getting my 2001 sporty out of winter storage. I had the oil changed while it was...

This is common, there is a oil bypass that dumps oil into your air filter. Most of us run the oil a little low to avoid this. I run mine with the oil midway between the full and low lines.

Oil in air filter

Check all your vacuum lines for kinks and/or blockage. Most of the bikes I've had this problem with are due to a blocked vacuum line.
