Pop the cover off, turn the rotor until the C mark is aligned, Then loosen up the 12 mm nut that is on the 10 mm headed screw. Then loosen up the 10 mm headed screw. When the screw is loosened up it will take up slack and put spring pressure on the rod that puts pressure on the cam chain. Now that its taken up the slack tighten down the 10 mm headed stud and then the 12 mm locknut. That should take out all play in the cam chain tensioner. The cam chain tensioner is located under the carb boots from the engine to the carbs.

sorry to tell you this but it might be the head. This model ran a no bearing head for the cams and they wear out. If it is the chain you got lucky, there are after market quality chains and tensioners out there

You have a self adjusting cam chain tensioner. It is sold as an assembly. Take out the complete unit and replace it with a new one. The springs are not bad , the device that keeps the pressure on the tensioner is slipping causing a ticking sound.

Basic tune up. May need the carbs cleaned, new plugs/wires, and ignition system gone over, including points cleaning/replacement (if equipped) and checking for proper operation of alternator charge coil and rectifier/regulator.
Ensure battery is properly charged.
