Question about 1972 Yamaha XS2
Running with the choke on is a classic indicator that the pilot circuit in the carb is too lean. Richen your pilot (low speed) circuit (the small jet in the bowl) by replacing it with a larger jet. Keep in mind I am not familiar wih this exact bike but I believe the advise to be solid.
