SOURCE: why is check engine light on when my 2001 electra

Although your engine is carburated, it still has an ECM. The engine gets it's timing pulses from a crank position sensor on the left side of the engine. It also has a MAP sensor and several other sensors.

Good Luck

Is there a way to keep the tensioner in place on the throttle tensioner? I have one on my 2001 FLHT and it is always slipping up and out of position.

You sure it's assembled correctly? Check a service manual or a friend's bike. The throttle assembly would have to be REALLY worn for the tensioner to come loose. Possible bent tensioner.
