Hi! You may have fuel flooding thats why it cuts out for the fuel may not be burnt. This can be resolve by replacing the spark plugs and the plug wires for better fuel burning. HOpe this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

Looking for what a code P0170 could mean for a 2002 gmc envoy ? I already replaced map sensor and still continue to have the same problem

For this code, you need to look at live data on the scanner. Add upstream O2 sensor data for bank 1 to the scanner display and start the engine. P0170 indicates bank one is out of range. Does bank one read higher or lower than normal? Normal is around 0.5 volts. If higher, you are too rich. If lower, you are too lean. If too rich, you may have a leaky injector. If lean, you may have a vacuum leak or dirty injectors.

@006 lucerne I'm driving down the highway at 70mph and the fuel cuts out until I drop to around 50mph and then it kicks back in. Any thoughts

Are you sure it was a fuel problem? Speed sensors, Throttle position sensor, cam and crank sensors, tepmerature sensors, map sensor all contribute signals to the engine control module so it will operate the engine in the most effective way . The best thing to do is to have a diagnostic test done on it to find which components are causing the symtoms.

Hard start and black smoke 94 dodge b250 van 318.

With the black smoke it make me think about your compression ring. Do a compression test. You must be over 110psi to have no problem and also the variation must be smaller that 8psi from your lowest to your highest cilyndre. If your under 110 psi and over 8 psi of variation then your engine gonna need ? compl?te overhaul... PS: over 92psi your engine Will still work but your not gonna ave power/torque

1998 Saturn SL2 engine light

Possible Causes
The following are malfunctions that could cause a rich condition:
^ Fuel pressure too high. Perform fuel pressure test.
^ Leaking fuel injector(s). - Perform pressure leak down test.
^ Vacuum leak around the MAP sensor grommet.
^ Oxygen sensor contamination.
^ Restricted exhaust or air intake.
^ Fuel Vapor Canister saturated with fuel.

If the front oxygen reading voltage is above 600 mV and the rear HO2S is above 600 mV all the time, the O2 sensors are probably not
at fault.

Ducati-1098 fouled plugs

Theoretically a zero map in the PC effectively eliminates it from the fueling circut as though it wasn't even there. Theoretically. I have one in mine and from what I can tell it does. That includes plug reading. So, assuming that's the case, the problem lies with the ECU fuel map, the adjustments in the circut or a bad sensor (engine coolant temp, ambient air temp, engine rpm, throttle position and I believe barometric pressure) giving false info to the ECU. It could also be something as simple as a filthy air cleaner. The ECU does not sense A/F ratio or mass airflow and relies solely upon a fixed map for fuel. A dirty airfilter would cause the richness. Were it me I would do a plug cut on the front cylinder at a steady highway rpm to see if it's rich at that engine speed and load vs only at idle/low rpm. Rich lower ranges will crap up a plug in no time and a cut will tell you if that's the case. Rather involved process but doesn't lie. The ECU map is rumored to be rich in the lower ranges. If that proves to be the case then it would be a simple matter of reducing fuel, via a negative map, in the rich rpm range. Given that they had it for two months and claimed they couldn't fix it would give me concern as to the qualifications of the dealer. It's just a machine and as such CAN be straightened out. I wouldn't buy into that at all. Lastly you can remove the PC and eliminate any possible effect it MAY be having. Not that hard to do, remove some bodywork and fuel tank, disconnect the PC injector connections, reconnect the stock ones and pull it out of there. Going back to stock is always good practice when confronted with something like this. Also you can then go back to the dealer KNOWING the problem is with the above mentioned stuff and KNOWING that it CAN be fixed if they've a mind to.

Poor acceleration, poor gas mileage

I have the same problem as talked about above. 2002 Hyundai accent gsi. HORRIBLE gas mileage. I only get about 320 km per full tank. My driving habits are good. i took it to the garage and they put it on the computer and no error codes showed up. Question: Can a MAP sensor be faulty but NOT show up on the computer diagnostic? I had my O2 sensor checked out and my exhaust, and changed the flex pipe. Car runs pretty good just horrible gas mileage and kinda crappy power. Changed fuel and air filter. Cleaned the fuel system entirely ($80 at garage not $4 bottle).

Anyone ever use a resistor in the MAP sensor?
