Question about 2006 Suzuki GSX-R 600

1 Answer

The front brakes on my 06 GSXR 600 won't bring the bike to a complete stop. The brake lever is an aftermarket item that was installed 2 years ago. I rode the bike once in the last yr 1/2 due to a deployment. What do i need to do to get it fixed.

Check the fluid level in the front master cylinder. Chances are you need to add some brake fluid and then bleed air out of the system. There is a bleeder valve on the handlebar at the lever and one on top of the wheel caliper. Please rate my answer. Thanks.

My brake light on my 06 Softail standard is always on as if my brake level is depressed.

There are two brake light switches on your bike. One for the front brake and it's located in the right handlebar switch housing and a pressure switch that is usually underneath the bike somewhere for the rear brake. You can find the rear brake light switch by following the metal brake line that comes out of the rear brake master cylinder until you come to a switch with some wires on it. On the older bikes, you could unplug the wires to see which switch was holding the light on. If the brake light goes off when you unplug the wires, it's this pressure switch that has the light held on. If the light stays on, it is the front brake light switch. On your bike, check for looseness in the front brake lever. If the lever and pin are worn, this will cause the lever to not depress the switch in the side of the switch housing facing the front brake lever. Your front brake switch may be broken. Odds are that the front brake switch is the one causing the problem.

    Good Luck

I had both front brake calipers strip and rebuilt a year ago they are now sticking. would brake cleaner sort this problem

HI, THE TROUBLE WITH BRAKES ON THE OLDER BIKES IS COMMON, AND NOT UNUSUAL FOR THIS TO HAPPEN ON A YEARLY BASIS, MY THOUGHTS ON THIS ARE THE BRAKE CLEANER WILL ONLY REMOVE LOOSE BRAKE DUST ETC, THE TYPE OF STICKING YOU ARE GETTING IS BEST CURED BY REMOVING THE CALIPERS FROM THE FORKS AND CHECKING FOR FREE MOVEMENT OF ALL PARTS, SLIDERS, PISTIONS, PADS, ETC IT MAY BE THIS TIME YOU WILL ONLY HAVE TO SERVICE 1 CALIPER,NO NEED TO REMOVE BRAKE LINES OR DISTURB THE PRESSURISED SYSTEM. WITH 1 CALIPER REMOVED GENTLY PULL IN THE BRAKE LEVER AND CHECK OPERATION OF PISTONS, DO NOT PUSH OUT ALL THE WAY AS THIS WILL CAUSE THE FLUID TO LEAK OUT OF THE SYSTEM, PUSH THE PISTONS BACK HOME GENTLY WITH SOME GRIPS TAKING CARE NOT TO DAMAGE PAINTWORK ON CALIPER OUTER, A SLIGHT RESISTANCE SHOULD BE FELT, IF YOU HAVE TO USE EXTREME FORCE THEN THE CALIPER WILL NEED A COMPLETE SERVICE, PEPEAT OPERATION ON OTHER CALIPER, PAUL

1998 gsxr 600 brakes lock on, new master and

Hi, If there is excessive air in your system after reassembly of master cylinder, the lever will have a spongy feeling about it and possible inconsistency or will have travel, bleeding the hydraulic system is best carried out by two people, remove the reservoir lid, top up over half and replace lightly to keep out dust, get a old glass jar, and a clear pipe that pushes down into the top of the bleeder valve, which is on top of the caliper block, and sink pipes other end into a little brake fluid in the glass, ensure there is always sufficient brake fluid in the reservoir tank, top up later if needed, use open spanner for bleeder valve, unscrew the bleeder valve one half turn and squeeze the brake lever as far as it will go, but do not release it until the bleeder valve is tightened again, repeat this a few times until a no more air bubbles come from the plastic pipe. Also, ensure all other joints are secured in this brake system, When all the bubbles disappear, close the bleeder valve, remove the pipe and install the bleeder valve dust cap. Check the fluid level in the reservoir, after the bleeding operation has been complete. Reinstall the Diaphragm, and the cap. Do not use the brake fluid drained from system as it contains minute air bubbles. There was the question of the locking pads, after the air is removed from the calipers, and there is still a prob, I might have the answer

Brakes on my 05 gsxr 600

sounds like bleeding them should help. It takes two people. Squeeze the brake lever about a dozen times, then hold the lever in. While holding, have someone loosen the bleeder valve on the brake caliper about a quarter turn. Just enough to see the brake fluid leak out and the lever start going in, then retighten the bleeder valve. Do this about three times for each caliper. Don't forget to keep an eye on the brake fluid because if you let it run out, you will put air in the lines and have to start over.

I just started my 2006 suzuki gsxr 600 for the first time since fall and it starts fine in neutral but as soon as i put it in gear it cuts off. The kickstand is up

Sounds like your clutch is stuck on [not disengaging when you pull the leaver]This can happen over a long storage-no use period. To fix put the bike in 3rd gear and start the engine with the clutch lever pressed[caution the bike will want to surge forward so keep your foot on the brake]Make shure to have the engine up to normal running temperature before you try this fix.the engine firing along with the brake pulled will release the sticking clutch plates. This will work!!!

    Gsxr 600 2008 brake light

    Hi and welcome to FixYa,

There are only 2 switches involve to activate the brake light. Disconnecting both one a time would help you determine which is faulty if ever. In some instances, it would be a pinched wire pair going to the front brake lever.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.
