Question about kawasaki ZZR 1200 Motorcycles

1 Answer

I have a 1998 Kawasaki Voyager. The problem is the tailights dont go on at night, but the brake lights work. Is this a fuse problem or a bulb problem?

Where are the fuses located so that I could check them? Also you mentioned headlights. My headlight works, lights in instrument panel works and license plate light works and radio/speakers work. The two tail lights are on the rear trunk. At night the tail light does not go on but the brake lights do work. The amber emergency flashers also work. A couple days ago, both tail lights were working. Could it be possible both bulbs went bad at the same time?

I can't get the manual that you listed. If you have the manual, could you let me know where the fuse is located. Thanks.

No, I usually have the bike shop conduct all the repairs for my bike. This is the first time trying to fix a problem myself on this bike. If it is a fuse or bulb, then I think I could do it myself, but if it is something more complicated, then back to the bike shop I go. Please let me know if you locate the fuse location before I make a mess or makes things worse. Thanks.

It is most likely a bulb problem. I do believe they run off the same fuse, same as headlight too I believe. You can always look at the fuse to see if it is bad. You can also test it with an ohmmeter. You can test power from the tailight wire to the bulb with a voltmeter if you wanted to.

that is unlikely both bulbs went bad. I just realized this is a voyager. I believe they have their own fuse.

Here is a shop manual if you need one.

I don't have the manual for this make, but I will do my best to locate one. Have you looked under your seat for the fuse box?

12 v Battery and coil, Transistorized Breakerless

This may indicate that they don't use fuses? This must be quite different from the other kawasaki bikes I have worked on. None of the manuals I have seen have anything to do with the Voyager. I am afraid I am of no help to you. I appologize.

The one thing you could do is trace the tailight wiring all the way as far as it goes and see if it leads to a fuse box or see if there is a shorted wire. Some may have a fusible link instead of an actual fuse which is possible.

Break light not working on a 1998 plymouth grand voyager expresso

If you are saying the brake light and parking light on one side is dead, the problem would be in the socket or the ground connection.
There would be two different circuits involved. And the rear parking lights are powered by the same fuse as the front.
The brake lights are on one fuse too.

you have a dead short in your brake light wiring somewhere. Check the switch first as it is a common weak link in the system. Check for pinched areas like seat and kiil switch also

Tailights only work on directional and brakes ,no running lights

Usely dash lights and taillights are on the same fuse, if you don't have dash lights you won't have tailights. If you got dash lights than you could have blown bulbs or maybe a bad headlight switch.

Tailights dont turn on

You have POSSIBLY 1. Headlight Switch bad
2. Disconnected or Corroded Ground in trunk
3. Make Absolutly sure the tail lamp FUSE is good
These are realy the only things I would suspect , Because Brakelights and Reverse lights are on
Different Curcits.
