1995 Kawasaki GPZ 1100 - Was running fine, then went to crack the throttle and it started running bad, sputtering. Runs good at low rpm but not high rpm. Took off carb, cleaned, looks good. Replaced fuel filter. Put in new gas, because we just bought it don't know how long it had been sitting. Seems like there may be a vacuum problem.????

We have checked all of the basic troubleshooting items, it seems to be something in the carburator because when they spray starting fluid into the carb it seems to want to accelerate the motor.

In that case the jets or the valve from the bowl are clogged by gums. Take the carburetor out again, dismantle it completely, soak it in cleaning fluid then blast every jet and canalisation with compressed air. Put it back together, adjust it properly, (be very careful about the fuel level in the bowl) and try again. You should adjust the carburetors using a flow meter for best results. Also replace the air filter with a good quality one

Because of the age I would carefully inspect the intake manifolds(rubber). At this age they tend to crack or separate from the metal flanges( air leaks). The o-rings that seal manifolds to the head may be cracked. Also spark plug caps contain resisters that corrode or burn out with age. Four NGK caps would only cost about $20. Check and make sure the air cleaner is not plugged or oil fouled. Many bikes have pollution tubes that fill with crud over time. If not emptied they back up into the air box. They are located in front of the rear wheel under the motor/air box. When you cleaned the carburetors did you take off the carb tops off and inspect the rubber diaphragms on the pistons for cracks or tears. These could certainly cause a problem if one or two of the pistons are not raising to let more air in when you open the throttle.

Be sure to check the intake manifolds were not damaged/cracked/separated during the last carb cleaning. Be sure to take the carb tops off and inspect the diaphragms for cracks or damage that would effect engine acceleration.

I purchased a Kawasaki GPZ 1100 1995 model there was no ignition switch completely unattached from the wire harness what wires would i connect to hotwire

Phillip, the GPZ is essentially a KZ 1100. If the color codes are correct, then if you put the red and the yellow wires together, this should give you power. However, as a temporary fix only, I will give you some good replacement options that should help you out. ^^ Good luck, and hope this helps.

1984 kawasaki gpz 1100.. would you be able to tell me what the air pressure for the rear uni track shock absorber should be?

Around 20psi with shock damping on position three gave a good ride in conjunction with 8psi in the linked front forks; for serious street racery another 10 psi in the shock and max damping helped stiffen things up.

Running well at high revs would indicate that all the fuel and air it needs are getting to the engine and you also have a good spark. Probably no problem with air and fuel filter ( if fitted) or sparkplugs.

Running hot, and bad idling are signs of a lean air fuel mixture. The engine is probably not getting enough fuel at low revs.

This could be caused by an air leak between the carburettors and the engine. Check that the vacuum line to the fuel tap is properly secured at both ends. It is behind the fuel line at the tap.

Get a a short length of hollow plastic tube and use it like a stethascope - put one end to your ear and move the other end around your carburettor mounts with your engine revs as low as you can get, and listen for any sucking noises that would indicate a leak. Look for cracks in the rubber inlets.

The other possibility is that there is an internal blockage in the idling jets or idling fuel circuit. This is where dirt tends to lodge because the jet dimensions and passageways are very fine - The high speed jets are much bigger and dirt often just passes straight through.

Try a little bit of choke while the engine is warm to see if you get a stronger low speed response. If so that would point to an internal blockage.
