Cold weather makes the engine hard to start for two main reasons. First, oil thickens when it's cold, which increases friction and makes it harder for the staner motor to spin the engine. ... You can ensure that your car will start in the worst weather by keeping the engine or the battery, or both, warm.

When the car is cold it idles very rough when warms up stops

Hello,
My name is mike. The problem it appears is your automatic choke might be acting up. Meaning when its cold the choke is not feeding the gas correctly to feed the injectors until engine is warm enough for the thermostat to shut odd. Take a trip into AUTO ZONE, they can put it on there hand held computer for free, and let you know, by codes that come up on there computer. Thanks Mike mc1bean_1.png

1991 dodge colt won't idle when engine is cold.

probably oil, it may be too thick when it's cold but once it warms up it liquefies and your engine runs smoothly. you could try changing oil, I'm guessing if you have a high performance oil the chances this is the problem may be greater since high performance things are usually geared towards working well when everything is hot
