Question about Suzuki GSX-R 750 F Motorcycles
I don't think it is a shift fork if you are easily able to shift up and down through all the gears as you have in the past. The only thing I can think of is some broken teeth on a gear. The tranny would **** or at least make a clicking noise as you ride in 2nd. Go to the website below and locate your bike. Click on the Change Assembly tab then scroll down to transmission. Look at the transmission diagram, Item 2 and 23 and possibly slider gear 36 would be involved. If you find a broken gear, replace it AND replace the gear it meshes with, even if the gear looks okay. Trust me on this.
Your bike has upper and lower case halves. The top end will not need to be torn down for the repair. Even so, you would need to feel confident that you can put it all back together if you decide to try it yourself. The engine sits upside down, the bottom case comes off as does various other components then you have access to the gears and shift forks. I can't say that I recommend the job for a first timer but 40 years ago I was a first timer myself. Don't tear into the bike until you have found a source for new gears. You may want to locate a shop willing to do the job or one willing to take in an engine and tranny in two separate boxes in the event problems come up. The image below should give you an idea of how the gear change mechanism works. Please rate my answer. Thanks.
