2000 yamaha r1 revs high at normal driving speeds at normal operating temps


Carbs either need to be synched,or the idle adjusted. Always adjust the idle at operating temprature. Also,be sure to have some slack/play in the throttle grip,so as to make sure its not adjusted too tight and holding the throttle open.

I think my '11 Monster 696 has a low idle. After warming up the engine and closing the choke the engine idles between 800-1000 rpms. As far as I know, the norm is between 1200-1300 rpms. Is there a...


If it doesn't stall out on you while driving, I wouldn't worry too much about it, I am not sure about the idle adj, I have never even bothered to look at mine, I know my 99 with carbs has an idle adj, and I know my 02 s4 stalls every now and then at a light, but never been a problem other than embarrassing. The choke is not really a choke but a low speed jet or idle jet because other wise there would be no gas going in the throttle, the twist grip does nothing till the engine starts. My 99, I can't touch the throttle till it fires or it will flood, (carbs), the 02, spin the throttle all day, it will never start. hit the idle jet, varoom, My 02 idles at 1100. Hope this helps.

Starts and idles just fine, but when you depress the throttle lever to spin the tines it dies


The high-speed carb jet may be fouled. Most 2-cycle carburetors have two adjustable jets, one for idle, another for higher speeds and loads.

My '95 ninja is idling to low (around 850 rpms...) and will sometimes die while downshifting approaching a stop, how do I adjust the idle speed?


You have to remove the seat, and loosen the tank to access the carbs. Follow the linkage from the throttle grip, down to the carbs and there in between the two middle carbs is an idle adjustment screw. You will need a phillips screwdriver (I think its a phillips, been a long time) with a thin shaft about 9 - 10 inces long to adjust it. You can use a 1/4 drive ratchet and long extension w/ a screw driver attachment also. Happy hunting

97 gsxr 750 doesn't idle back down


Throttle cable maybe the culprit if carbies are 100% good. Check length of cable for kinks, squashing or undue wear on shroud. Does throttle grip snap back at all steering angles. Ball end of cable in twist grip maybe binding in the grip housing, cable often bunches at cable end from severe bending to get it in or out of slot.
Double-check the starting plunger is not loose, and throttle adjuster rotates freely for all carbs.
Check again (I know, it's a hassle) needle jets are all rising and dropping smoothly and in unison. A needle out of sync (on wrong notch) will effect idle speeds.
Tip: If engine revs high and you load engine (in first, slow clutch release, no throttle) and bike stalls, your problem is confined to one carby. If it's got some grunt (won't stall) you have issues with all of them...generally.

I know its a stupid qeustion but where exactly on the motorcycle is the air screw and throttle screw. I have a 2007 Suzuki rm125.


The air mixture needle valve is on the Carb. Throttle screw as you call it, you might be referring to 1- throttle adjustment at the twist throttle hand grip. 2- At the top of the carb is a throttle cable adjustment 3- some times somewhere between the twist grip and the carb there is an adjustment.4- there is also a idle adjustment at the carb.3a37cbb.png

Troy-Bilt TB75SS 31cc string trimmer dies when given throttle.


Your carburetor needs cleaned. Disassemble carb. and spray with carb. cleaner. Make sure that the small screen is free of debris. Use a Den Tek Brush,

Timing Adjustment issues!


If the bike runs then Top Dead Center (TDC) is not an issue. But to check piston stroke position, Remove the valve cap cover on the intake of the front cylinder. Remove both the spark plugs. Rotate the crank shaft untill the rocker arm starts to move. The piston is now starting down on the intake stroke. Rotate the crank further and the rocker arm moves in the opposite direction. The piston is now going upward on the compression stroke. Look at the marks on the flywheel. Rotate the crank untill the TDC mark lines up with the timing index mark. The front piston is now at TDC.

If your model has carbs then the backfire fix requires you to syncronize and balance the carbs.
SYNCHRONIZE THE CARBS
Remove the air filter and rubber fittings to allow you to see into the throat of both carbs. You may need a mirror to see inside. You need to be able to see the slides go up and down when you twist the throttle. Now turn the fitting where the cable goes into each carb such that there is just a bit of slack in the cable, 1/16" is plenty. Lock ONE of the cable adjusters down tight. All further adjustments will be made on the other carb.

With the motor turned off twist the throttle very slowly while looking at the slides. Both slides need to begin lifting at the exact same moment. If the slides don't raise at the exact same time then slowly twist the throttle until the locked adjuster slide just barely starts to move. Hold the throttle still and turn the adjuster on the other carb so that the slide on that carb just barely starts to move also. Now recheck the slide movement timing. Do this process until the slides on both carbs begin to raise at the EXACT same moment. Lock down the loose adjuster and re-check the slides.

BALANCE THE CARBS
Turn the throttle screw on the LEFT carb one half turn inward. Now start the engine and get it warmed up. With the engine running, remove the RIGHT spark plug wire. Adjust the idle speed on the left carb to the point where the engine just can't quite stay running and dies. Now put the loose spark plug wire back into place.

Now turn the throttle screw on the RIGHT carb one half turn inward. Restart and rev the engine. Next, remove the LEFT spark plug wire. Adjust the idle speed on the right carb to the point where the engine just can't quite stay running and dies. Now put the loose spark plug wire back into place.

Turn the idle screw on each carb EXACTLY ONE QUARTER turn outward and restart the engine. The engine will be probably be idling very fast. Adjust both the idle screws equally from this point to get to the desired idle speed. Congratulations, you have just balanced and synchronized your carbs.

Honda 1300c backfire through carb at wide open throttle. I have open up the exhust and rejetted the carb . the bike will run fine up to mid throttle or 65 mph but if you accellerate hard or go to wide open...


Try balancing ans syncronising the carbs.
BALANCE THE CARBS
Turn the throttle screw on the LEFT carb one half turn inward. Now start the engine and get it warmed up. With the engine running, remove the RIGHT spark plug wire. Adjust the idle speed on the left carb to the point where the engine just can't quite stay running and dies. Now put the loose spark plug wire back into place.

Now turn the throttle screw on the RIGHT carb one half turn inward. Restart and rev the engine. Next, remove the LEFT spark plug wire. Adjust the idle speed on the right carb to the point where the engine just can't quite stay running and dies. Now put the loose spark plug wire back into place.

Turn the idle screw on each carb EXACTLY ONE QUARTER turn outward and restart the engine. The engine will be probably be idling very fast. Adjust both the idle screws equally from this point to get to the desired idle speed.

Idle adjustment


If there is not a screw on the side of the carb then look at the top of the carb where the throttle cable connects. The fitting at the top of the carb is threaded and would adjust the carb idle. There may be a similer adjustment at the twist grip but I don't remember one there.
