Question about Yamaha YZ 250 Motorcycles

1 Answer

I have a YFB250E Timberwolf 4-wheeler that will start only with the chock on full and then after it warms up it will idle. When I put the gas to it it dies immediately. Sometimes while idling it pops like maybe the timing sticks or something. I'm scared to take it to the shop and end up with an outrageous bill for a machine that has never been in the shop since 1994.

If your engine has not been serviced since 1994 you have certainly gotten a lot of goody out of it. The popping tends to indicate a need to have the valves re-seated. The carb should be cleaned, oil changed, and a new spark plug installed. You can do the carb, oil and plug yourself. Your bigger problem is finding a shop willing to work on it. Most dealers will not work on a machine more than 10 years old due to parts avaiability. Call around. Often shop mechanics repair stuff at home to make extra cash. Ask the cost for reseating the valves. You can see a diagram of your engine at the site below. > please rate my answer. www.babbittsonline.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/default.aspx

Johndeer la140 runs good on full choke but throdle lever does nothing it is not broke the butterfly is moveing in the carb but no gas response runs good on full chock but when i put the choke down ...

WHEN YOU GIVE A CARB CHOKE, IT RESTRICTS AIR FLOW AND GIVING THE ENGINE MORE GAS INSTEAD OF A REQUIRED MIXTURE... USUALLY THIS IS FOR STARTING IN COLD TEMPS. UNTIL THE ENGINE WARMS UP AND YOU RETURN THE CHOKE BACK TO NORMAL. THAT IS ALL THE CHOKE DOES.... IT DOES NOT MAKE THE ENGINE RUN BETTER BECAUSE YOU THINK IT WILL.

My 4-wheeler idles fine but misfires once you give it gas

I don't know if I can solve it but it sounds to me like you're not getting enough fuel. has it been sitting awhile or just start doing this randomly? If it's been sitting there's a pretty good chance you'll need to clean you carburetor. when gas sits in the bowl of your carburetor for too long it will get thick and smell almost like varnish. My Suzuki 250 4x4 had a similar misfire and cleaning the carb fixed mine.

Yamaha timberwolf 4x4 carberator issues

Hi,

Firstly, if you are not a mechanical person you should never buy a vehicle that does not run.
However, here are some basic tests.
1. Connect a good battery.
2. Remove the spark plug.
3. Turn the motor using the starter motor or kick starter.
4. check for spark by inserting a new plug into the plug cap. (make sure the plug is grounded).

If the motor turns freely and there is spark, chances are good that the motor will run. This does not mean that the motor is in a good condition. Only with the motor running will you be able to know for sure.

You will now have to source a carb and fit it to the 4 wheeler.
Fitting the carb is not too difficult. Check that the intake manifold is not perished or torn, and remember to use the airfilter.

Enjoy the ride !

Won't idle steadily

Check the rubber boot that joins the carby to the engine to often have seen the hose clamps over tightened therefore creating a split in the rubber letting to much air in giving the rough idle eventually you wont be able to start it at all (have a good thorough look inside an outside of boot doesnt take much)
