Question about 2000 Harley Davidson FXST Softail Standard

1 Answer

I hesitate to call it a hesitation but my 2001 FLSTC, 90k miles is having issues. Engine light comes on intermittently and usually at lower speeds when the gas is not being fed consistently. At higher speeds you can feel the engine become rougher and then it goes back to normal. The engine light comes on sometimes at these high speeds It starts with no problems It still shifts and acclerates with no problems. I was having some of the same problems in mid June and we took it in and they couldn't find any issues. We had a 10 k service at that time and the issue seemed to go away until this past week. It is more inclined to do this after it has warmed up.

The flashing lights "Engine light comes on intermittently and usually at lower speeds when the gas is not being fed consistently" is an error code that needs to be read by Harley Davidson Mechanic. You may have to drop the Scooter off and let the Mechanic ride it everyday in order to catch the error code in action or they may be able to simply hook it up to code reader and discover the malfunction I am not sure if the computer (ECM) stores the error codes history or for how long thus the answer I gave but for safety sake I would defiantly drop it at the HD shop and let them go thoroughly through the ECM to ensure no issues there what-so-ever. I hope this really helps.

Thanks The issue ended up being the map sensor itself. It has been replaced and I have no issues now.

What causes hesitation in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear?

I would suggest that you take your car to O'rielly's or one of the larger auto parts chain stores and have them connect the diagnostic reader to your car. It sounds to me as though you are experiencing something to do with the cars computer and the way it is reading it's sensors. They will do this for free and then tell you what the error codes mean, if any. If you do receive error codes, chances are that is your problem and you will then be aware of what it is and what it will cost to clear it up and not have some mechanic charging you for his time doing exploratory diagnostics and charging you an arm and a leg just to find out whats wrong.

Intermittent hesitation at steady speed.

It could be the spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor in the cap, or an O2 sensor. does the check engine light come on?

I need to know about 2001 Nissan Sentra service on 88k miles , pleaseee thanks

Hello hecri, my name is JShreader. Thank You for asking your question here at fixya.com

Below is the Maintenance Schedule for 82k-90k. It is the 90k Schedule you need to be more concerned about (granted the maintenance has been kept up by you or previous owners).

This Engine is Chain Driven, so there is no need to worry about a Timing Belt. Timing Chains are designed to last the life of the Engine. As well as the listed items, personally on the 90k visit, I would go ahead check the Ball Joints and Suspension Components. These tend to wear around the 90-95k mile mark.
I hope this helps you. If you have any more questions please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks, JShreader!

Stalling, missing, hesitating, T/C won't work

Replace plugs and wires, especially if the missing is worse at high throttle, and definitely if the check engine light *blinks*. The plugs might make it to 100k miles on this engine, but the spark plug boots can carbon track before then.
