Question about 1985 Honda VF 1100 Sabre

2 Answers

I have a 1985 vf 1100 sabre, the left hand switch assembly is missing the high/low beam selector switch and turn signal switch... the part is discontinued and I cannot find a spare anywhere. My question is, will a universal assembly work the same as oem, will the connectors match?

You can take any switch off of any bike as long as it has the things you need on it. If you open the switch , you can see which colored wires go where. You can double check with a voltage meter. I have rewired switches in the past and used the connectors of of the old switch so everything matched up color wise, plug-in wise, etc. That way if you have to take it off you do not have to figure out what color does what all over again. I have three old Goldwings none of which have the original switches on them.

2007 chev sub head lights wont turn on

Do you know anything about automotive electronics ? Electronic control modules .
Headlamp ON/OFF control is determined by the body control module (BCM) by a signal on the headlamp switch on input circuit when the headlamp switch is in the HEAD position. When the headlamp switch is in the AUTO position, the BCM determines headlamps ON/OFF by the voltage from the ambient light sensor.
If the headlight switch is left in the ON position, the inadvertent power control feature will turn OFF the headlights approximately 10 minutes after the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position. If the driver places the headlight switch in the ON position after the ignition switch has been turned OFF, or if the ignition switch is in the ACCY position, the headlights will remain ON until turned OFF or the battery runs dead.
The high beam indicator is illuminated when the instrument cluster receives a GMLAN serial data message from the BCM that the high beams are illuminated.
High Beams
The high beam headlamps receive voltage from the headlamp high relay located in the underhood fuse block. The BCM controls the relay on the headlamp high beam relay control circuit. High beam control is determined by a signal on the headlamp dimmer switch signal circuit from the multifunction switch. When the headlamp dimmer switch signal circuit is grounded, the BCM grounds the headlamp high beam relay control circuit, illuminating the high beam headlamps. The right and left high beam circuits are independent and are fused independently in the underhood fuse block.
Low Beams - Standard
The low beam headlamps receive voltage from the headlamp low beam relay located in the underhood fuse block. The BCM controls the relay on the headlamp low beam relay control circuit. Low beam control is determined by a signal on the headlamp dimmer switch signal circuit from the multifunction switch. When the headlamp dimmer switch signal circuit is open, the BCM grounds the headlamp low beam relay control circuit, illuminating the low beam headlamps. The right and left low beam circuits are independent are fused independently in the underhood fuse block.

Hooking up a factory scan tool an checking DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes would be the very first step in trouble shooting this problem .
DTC B257A 00: Headlamp Switch Input Signal Mismatch
DTC 2575 00: Headlamp Control Circuit

I have a 2006 Ford Freestar SE minivan. When I try to set the dimmer switch to bright, the headlights turn off. They do however stay on as long as the dimmer switch is set to dim.

What you are referring to is the beam selector switch, i.e., low beam vs high beam. The headlight switch on the dash turns on the headlights set to low beam. Pulling the steering column lever toward you flashes the high beams; pushing the lever away from you turns on steady high beams. From your description, I believe you do not understand the function of the beam selector switch.

Took the plastics off my 85 honda vf700s and sprayed of the bike at the car wash. Now it runs but it is missing alot of power

probably got water in the spark plug wells, the wells are very deep and the plug wir tends to restrict the water from boiling out. Try pulling all the plug wires off the plugs( one at a time if you need to) and blow down in the wells with compressed air to dry it out. You may also need to replace the plugs as the low power spark may have allowed them to become fouled with fuel.

Have hand control wireing problem ,,,, need to know what color wire does what ,,,, got the left hand control to wire up on a older bike,,,,, hooking up trun sigals and head light control,,,,what color...

This information applies to the vast majority of Honda motorcycles. Colors for the right handlebar switch are: Grey sends power to the turn signal switch. Light Blue goes from the turn signal switch, to the right turn signals. Orange goes to the left turn signals. Light Green goes to the horn button.
The left handlebar switch: Yellow With Red stripe goes to the starter button. Black wires take power to the headlight switch and the kill switch. White goes to the headlight low beam, Blue to the high beam. Brown / White goes to the tail light, running and instrument lighting. Black / White comes from the kill switch and delivers power to the ignition coils.
I hope this helps.

Want to change all fluids on a 1985 Sabre 1100 with 20k on the spedo. What types of fluiids do you recomend?

The oil & transmission are covered in shot. The brake fluid you will want to inspect to see if is clear and free of sediment. Change at will.
Fork oil is something to change also.
If the bike has been sitting up for any period of time go through the carbs, fuel petcock, and clean out and flush gas tank. Hope this helps.

My honda vf 1100 honda wont start after riding,is there a charging problem ? Thanks

Chances are, YES.

Simple chraging system test:
Start motorcycle
Turn HIGH BEAM light ON
Run 10 minutes or until warmed up good
Rev the RPMs to at least 3,000
Remove the positive battery cable

If the motorcycle dies, then there IS a charging sytem failure.
If the motorcycle continues to run, have the battery checked at a local parts store. If they do not know the Cold Cranking amps tell them 235.

If it is a charging system failure, send another question and I can walk you through diagnoses and repair.

Fork oil capacity for a 1982 Honda 750 Sabre??

I found the answer on Wiki Answers.

It says :

right 360 c.c. SAE 10
left 380 c.c. SAE 10

I wouldn't use sae 10 however, Honda suggests 5w fork oil. Just changed the fork seals on mine.

My headlights dont work,.all other lights are fine though,.is it the fuses or the bulbs? im not sure what fuses they would be,.there seem to be different ones for the same thing

do your flash to pass lamps light when you pull the stalk towards you? If yes, the bulbs are ok.
Do the hig beams work?
Your headlamps have sepaerate fuses for each headlamp and you have a low beam relay and a high beam relay under the hood in the black box.
If everything is out, I suspect a bad headlamp switch.
Check car-part.com and look on page with * for cheapest price.

Your owner manual will identify fuses & relays.

PS, You did not recently instal high current bulbs did you? If yes, put originals back in.

HEADLAMPS

The voltage is supplied to the lamp switch through a fuse. This fuse is located in the central junction box in the left-hand footwell.
When the headlamps are switched on, a voltage is supplied to the high beam/low beam switch and to the low beam relay. The relay for the low beam is located in the battery junction box (BJB) in the engine compartment.
If the high beam/low beam switch is set to "low beam", then a voltage is supplied through the low beam relay to the low beam part of the headlamp assembly. The left and right-hand low beams are fused separately. The fuses are located in the battery junction box (BJB) in the engine compartment.
If the high beam/low beam switch is set to "high beam", then a voltage is supplied through the high beam relay to the high beam part of the headlamp assembly. The left and right-hand high beams are fused separately. The fuses are located in the battery junction box (BJB) in the engine compartment.

The headlight high/low beam switch assembly.96 Safari has the turn signal stem as the high/low beam switch.Removal of the steering wheel is necessary to get to the switch assembly for replacement.
