I own a 1982 yamaha xj650 turbo charged motorcycle and I'm having problems starting it. It has sat for a couple months without being started. It attempts to start right away then just cranks over with no results. It will do this everytime after setting over night or waiting several hours to try and start again. I tried draining the fuel from the tank and adding fresh fuel with no change in results. It has always been a hard strater and I read where this model is touchy at start up when cold. Never this long though. Any help?

This is "normal" for the turbo, make sure your battery is fully charged, it will take a while to start ALL THE TIME, it is nothing new, it is a pain i know, but hey, what a cool bike eh. The guys over here cannot believe it will keep up with SV1000's and the likes.... hahahahha
mine has sat for 3-4 months at a time and will start.... after while..
good luck

I am selling my 82 xj650, the buyer wanted to hear it run as it has been sitting for two years. I pulled it out, added gas charged the battery and added oil. It started, but now the clutches froze!

Not uncommon for a Yamaha that has sat this long. Condensation in oil has rusted the clutch plates together. You can try riding the bike in 1st gear and with the clutch held pulled in snap the throttle open and closed repeatedly untill it breaks free. This will be a wild jerky ride so be careful and have plenty of room to operate. If it does not break free within a period of time that has brought the engine up to full operating temp. then dissassembly of the clutch will be the only answer.

1982 Yamaha Seca Turbo (XJ650LJ) Had the carbs

Mine was stored for 20 years, I ended up replacing the seat and needles, cleaning them thoroughly and when I tried starting it, nothing!! No gas was going to the carbs, it turned out to be my gas pump, it was seized by the old gas remains 'varnish' so I had to clean it numerous times, soaked it in gas cleaner (short period at a time 15 minutes or so, being a very powerful cleaner, you cannot leave it for long without causing greater problems, thus I was able to get the pump going by boosting it with my car batterie, having more cranking amps directly to the pump, the pump was able to release itself from the old crusty varnish.

I have a 1982 yamaha 650 turbo should i connect

You must mount the tank and hook up the fuel feed lines. But you do not need too bolt the tank down just to start the engine.

1982 yamaha xj650 starting

Check the electrical switch in the clutch lever, most bikes have one as a safety, so you cant start it in gear, unless the clutch is in, could be a faulty switch, also do you have a switch on your side stand, sometimes these can be faulty as well.

I have an 82xj650 with a new battery that dead after hour of ride

Yep. Have you tried to use slow charger on your battery to revive it again. Check your charging system because nothing comes in but all goes out.
