Question about 2007 Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe

I blew out my air cleaner filter but that didn't help my bike still cuts out. I switched plugs (exact same as came out) pipes are still black inside. situation: 3 days before it did this it ran fine - I parked it on patio and it rained hard those three days, and the humidity was high. When it was over I went to ride and was cutting out bad with black smoke. I put heet in fuel tank but still no luck. Is there a secret to shanging air filter? 2007 Yamaha 1300 V Star fuel inj. water cooled.

it may but quality air cleaners do not affect air low velocity or change tuning of the engine you can get the air flow specs for each air filter by googling the name of the filter and reading the air velocity graphs for each filter brand

You didn\'t say what kind of exhaust you have on the bike, but if it\'s some sort of aftermarket pipe, like a Yoshi, you may want to check the baffles for carbon buildup.

I would be least suspicious of your clutch and more wary of something in the food chain. i.e. Start with possible bad gas (did you drain last years gunk outta there?.....fuel tap clean out (it doesn\'t take much to plug those small holes)....air filters....etc.

I\'m not sure if your bike is injected or carburetor, but, either way, it wouldn\'t hurt to run a half a can of the appropriate "cleaner" through the tank.

Try these tips first. Like I said, it\'s waaaay more likely to do with air or fuel than mechanical stuff like a clutch. Good luck!

Oil getting air filter


The engine breather pipe is mostly routed to the air cleaner box, if it gets oily means the piston oil rings are the culprit.
You can do one thing to make sure though, remove the breather pipe at the air cleaner housing and start the bike, see if there are signs of bluish smoke or oil vapours emitting there.

I would suggest not making any changes until you find out the problem. especially if the bike was running ok prior. Was the bike sitting for the winter? did you use any fuel stabilizer? Change fuel including draining carbs. Check your air intake passages for spider webs, any mouse nests,... check air filter. change your spark plugs , especially if they look black. The condition of the old spark plugs will tell you a lot. Black indicates running too rich. Whitish or next to nothing indicates too lean fuel mixture. Tanish color is perfect. Have 2006 big dog k-9 changing air cleaner to bullet type no place to plug crankhose to. can't find proper bracket with proper hookup, any help


This is quite common when trying to fit a part designed for one bike to another bike. Harley does not use a hose for the crankcase vent, they come straight out of the rocker boxes with their breathers. Now, depending on the design of the breather, you could drill and tap a 1/8" pipe plug hole in the backing plate inward of the air filter element and install a pipe nipple to plug the hose onto.

As for the bracket, same thing. You my wind up fabricating your own bracket.

If you have changed the air cleaner intake in any way , or the exhaust system in any way , you probably need to put a Power Commander on the cycle. If you have a Power Commander on the already, you need to hook your motorcycle back up to your computer and try a different map for your CDI box. Fuel injected motorcycles are very precisely made. They do not have the ability to compensate for changes you make to the intake and exhaust. By adding a Power Commander, You get the ability to change the fuel injection/power curve to match the changes made to the stock set up. To fix your bike you have to either put your bike back to stock ,or add (or remap) the Power Commander. If your bike is stock and giving you these issues, take it back to the dealer and have the fuel injection system checked out.

Just taken carb off of a Yamaha sr125


Hi,

Offhand, I would suspect the clear tube to be overflow while the black (smaller and connected at the bottom of the bowl near a bleeder screw) would be drain hose for removing stale or contaminated fuel inside the carb's bowl. As long as their is no suction on any of the tubes with the engine running, you should be OK. Should there be suction felt at the free end, then it should be connected somewhere and most likely would be to the fuel valve/petcock or must be plugged.
