Contact this Clett Borgett at http://www.olddude.com/ . He may just have one in stock. OEM. The clutch release rod is actually two or more pieces in a Sportster.

Just bought 79 sportster. hearing knocking from engine when on the road . also seems like it is running a bit hot. the oil reservoir gets pretty warm.

Hi,

It may be running lean (too high air'fuel ratio). Do a plug chop: In a safe area with the engine fully warmed up, get to a cruising speed, then pull in the clutch in and hit the kill switch and stop the bike.

Pull the spark plugs and "read" them - see how the insulators look. Tan like a paper bag is ideal color. White is too lean, dark is too rich.

Here's a great page.

Need to know what type fluid goes in clutch housing cover on 79 sportster 1000

Harley-Davidson Sport Trans fluid or equilivant. Now, there are several aftermarket makers of this oil. It is different from the oil used in the Big Twin clutch cover because in the Big Twin, the oil only lubricates the chain and the clutch. In a Sportster, the oil also is the transmission lubricant so it has to have the proper shear resistance and high pressure lubricant additives in it. Custom Chrome, V-Twin, Motor Factory, and many others make this lubricant. Order it through your motorcycle shop.

2008 Yamaha TW200 will not move when clutch released

Here are the possibilities > > Bent clutch push rod, missing push rod ball bearing or push rod, worn out actuator shaft cam, Missing friction disk (5), or pressure plate (4), totally worn out friction disks, clutch plates not installed in the correct sequence, extremely weak clutch springs, stripped teeth on the clutch hub, wrong clutch cable length (inner cable vs outer cable), broken shaft, bent then broken shift fork stems, broken slider gear dogs and a missing shift fork pin.

You didn't say if anyone had worked on the clutch or gearbox so I am throwing in nearly EVERYTHING possible that could create the problem. A little more background and most of the above can be ruled out. Get back to us.

Hi Aubrey,
I use Dextron II in my FLHR Road King and its never missed a beat, however your local spares stockist should stock aftermarket oil NOT H.D. (Mortgage price) which does the same.
