pull the injectors and have the tips cleaned as they are miss-firing from the excessive pressure when extra fuel is trying to pass through.

I have a mercedes e320 1995, suddenly i am having a problem that could be describes as below: 1- when i press to accelerate the car feels like shaking a little and doesn't accelerate unless i press at the...

Check your fuel pressure regulator, back fires are indicators of unburnt fuel and shaking could be fuel starvation. Yes, a bad fuel pressure regulator will not REGULATE the fuel properly.

If it was only shaking then it could be a clogged fuel filter.

Fuel or Air obstruction. Check fuel filter and air filter. If problem still not resolved, take it to a shop and have them pressure test your fuel pump.

I have a 04 night train with carb and it does back fire and then there is a mist of oil that spill out of my air filter.

The backfiring though the carb is probably due to a lean mixture. The carbs are jetted extremely lean to meet EPA emissions levels. Also, the crankcase pressure is vented into the air filter to be recycled though the engine per EPA requirements. The same thing as the PCV valve on your automobile engine. When the engine coughs, it's will blow out a mist of oil because of this.

Now, you can have the carb rejetted to richen the mixture. I'd go up one size on the slow jet. Also check to make sure the accelerator pump is working properly. With the engine OFF, the air filter off, crank the throttle to the wide open position. You should see a stream of fuel squirt into the carb from the brass accelerator pump nozzle.

Since the crankcase pressure is vented to the air filter, oil will accumilate in the air filter. You must periodically remove the covers and clean the filter out. There are kits available on the aftermarket parts venue that will allow you to reroute your crankcase pressure away from the air filter.

Good Luck

Why does it back fire threw the air filter when i take off at a stop light ?

Usually, when the engine spits back through the carb, it's because the carb is jetted just a bit lean or the accelerator pump is not working as it should.

Take the air cleaner cover and air filter element off the engine. With the engine OFF, look into the mouth of the carb and twist the throttle grip. You should see a squirt of fuel spray into the carb. If so, your accelerator pump is operating properly. If not, you need to replace the diaphragm in the accelerator pump.

If the accelerator pump is working as it should, you may notice a nice difference if you enrichen the low speed mixture up a bit. I think your engine comes with a #42 jet. Replace this with the next size up. Never move over one size at the time.

Good Luck

Carburator hesitates and back fire?

Sounds like your accelerator pump is not working correctly. Remove the air cleaner cover and the filter element. With the enigne OFF, look into the carburetor and crank the throttle grip wide open. You should see a stream of fuel squirt into the throat of the carb. If not, your accelerator pump needs rebuilding.

To rebuild the pump, remove the air filter backing plate. Then remove the four screws that hold the float bowl onto the carb. Make sure your petcock is turned off. If it's a vacuum operated petcock, it should be off. Drop the float bowl down and remove it. Look into the bottom of the bowl and see how much trash or whatever is in there. Turn the bowl upside down and remove the two screws left that hold the accelerator pump cover on. Underneath the cover you'll find a small spring, a diaphragm, and an o-ring. Replace the diaphragm making sure that you get it in in the correct direction. There's a lip that goes into a groove in the float bowl. Position the spring and o-ring and reinstall the two screws that hold the cover on. Replace the float bowl on the carb making sure you get the pump push rod into the hole that it goes into. Install the four screws, the backing plate, the air filter, and cover.

I hope this helps, Good Luck, Steve

Ford F150 engine backfiring, running/idling rough

I Have a 1999 ford f150 4.6 that back fires and is just running really ruff when idling alot of nack fire a sord of like a pulse going on what is my problem?

Apr 16, 2010 | Ford F-150 Cars & Trucks

Engine backfires when accelerating, idles rough but runs fine over 50+ miles per hour.

Idle is rough because not a right Air/ Gas mixture.
The ideal air /gas ratio is 14.6:1. If less than that it has rich mixture. If it more then that it has a lean mixture.
Back fire happens when accelerated because of of rich mixture pumped out at exhaust cycle is burning.
At speed above 40 miles/hour, temperature and fast compression cycle make the problem is less obvious.
Cheap first shot is to replace the air filter to correct this ratio. If it doesn't help, need Fuel distributor service. ( However people like to make easy money from you first, they will convince you for a turn up) Good Luck. I'll check back to see how the progress going.
