Question about kawasaki VN 1500 Vulcan Classic Motorcycles

1 Answer

My 1997 vulcan classic 1500 will not start. It turns over really good, doesnt seem to get any gas, I notice the transmission fluid is low would there be a sensor in that, that would not let me start the bike. I drove it once at the beginning of summer for about 10 miles, pulling into drive it backfired and then stopped running and I idled in garage, ever since I have not been able to start bike, I did change spark plugs. Got any ideas???

Check your compression. you might have a problem with the valves. Other thing it might be is a jet or float in one of the carbs is stuck. hope this helps

I have a 97 dodge 1500. the transmission shifts fine when cold but you have to shift it by hand when it gets hot? also, the radiator is really goopt up and doesnt seem to be taking water. its blowing white...

When the radiator isn't functioning correctly the transmission will get too hot internally and the fluid will overheat. The valve body in the transmission expands and the clearances allow pressures inside the transmission to lower. I suggest you get the radiator repaired. That white smoke you see may be coming from worn rings on the pistons or worn valve stem seals.

TO ALL VN1500 OWNERS....This once happen to me,
I went to the garage to start the bike "Nothing ""The first thing is the lights are bright but no turning over,Next you think the solenoid is kaput but the answer was very simple and the fix takes 30 seconds..
Do not take the bike to bits looking for other problems and look at the clutch leaver and you will see some wires going into a plastic shroud going into the switch in the clutch leaver, Make sure this has not popped out if its connection as it some times may do after a few years due to constant turning on the handlebars,
When this is not connected you will have a bike that will not fire up but comes alive and you will hear a clicking noise but this is from the engine carb area and every function of the bike will work but it will not turn over, Worth looking at and saves sixteen quid for a starter unit you never needed.

The jets in your carburetors are restricted from fuel sitting in bike and turning to varnish. The color change on the pipes is an indication of the bike running excessively lean due to insufficient fuel. You will need to remove, clean and adjust the carburetors.

Contaminated fluid in the hydraulic clutch actuation system. Instead of a cable, your bike has a hydraulically actuated clutch. This system is great because it offers low maintenance and a relatively light clutch lever pull.
You will need to flush the system, refill with the appropriate fluid (check the owner's manual, but it is probably DOT4 brake fluid), inspect for leaks, and bleed.

I have been trying to start my kawasaki vulcan ..she try but it doesnt happen...i took out the gas line to drain but is not working ..what else i can do?

The line to drain the gas tank or carb? If you have auto shut off fuel valves(vacuum) set the fuel valve to "prime"(or check owners manual about fuel system)
Some bikes need a fully charged battery to start sometimes.
Will the bike fire on starting fluid?
Spark plugs OK?
Can you get a 1/4 " spark at the plug.
Contact me if you need more info.
