You might pop a seal , tear a gasket, or fill your air box with oil fowling a perfectly good air filter. Place a clean pan under the drain plug and without completely removing the plug bleed out enough oil to get the correct level in the bike. Then, save the oil for topping up or your next change.

Chevy Silverado threw all the oil out around the oil filter. Changed the filter, but that wasn't the problem. What could be causing it to lose all the oil?

Take th oil filter off and make sure there is only one gasket sometimes the old one will stick there and the new ones cannot make a good seal

Starter won't totally engage on my 2002 Yamaha Vstar 1000.

I worked for a large Yamaha dealership and I can tell you those bikes are common for starting problems. Usually it's the starter clutch gear that goes out on them. It's roughly about $300 in parts and 2.5 hours labor. Also, there is an oil filter relocator kit available for those bikes you can put on to make the bike easier to service. This can save you in future labor costs and make it easier for you to do your own oil changes.

How many engine oil quarts require my vstar classic 650 for its first change

New oil (5 US quarts, 20w40, for motorcycles with wet clutches. Despite the bike, this does NOT generally include V-Twin oil, which is designed for bikes with separate engine and transmission oil, typically. This can greatly effect clutch and transmission efficiency and functionality.)

Change oil in 2004 Yamaha V Star 1100 Classic, procedure?

i think the oil filter is at the front behind a round finned cover, if you find the drain plug it should be right above it, it shoud tell you how much oil it takes right next to the filler

Oil check

By now you've noticed it's not possible to sit on the bike and see the sightglass at the same time...get yourself an inspection mirror from Harbor Freight or anywhere that has tools. Get one with a handle that telescopes out. This way you can sit on the bike and use the mirror to see the sightglass. This will allow you to move the bike slightly off center and find the oil level. If it's covering the sightglass completely, it's too full. Black oil indicates a change badly needed and perhaps a filter that's not working properly. If it's still in breakin, then it's still under warranty. Get with your dealer..
