( I am not familiar with this engine only trying to help my Son,)

Thank you for your prompt reply now I can get on with Completeing head rebuild.

I have identified the "Spacers" as the Decompression cams. Rocketman replied saying the movement did not sound normal but I accept your reply as being correct as the Cam shaft was not dismantled and these were not disturbed. My Son tells me of another problem he has with the St.arter,He says it is very clunky and does not turn continuouly until eng starts but only turns once then stops. What should I look for. I am still waiting for seals and Gaskets to fit rocker cover.

If thats the case, make sure that the battery has a good charge for the starter to kick the flywheel. If the battery is weak it will just make a clanking sound for the force is lacking.

Had the head and head gasket replaced. now it seems like all cylinders aren't working.have any idea what's wrong?

have a compression test done to check for bent valves
It is common for people to refit the head and cam shaft/s then attempt to turn the cam shaft or crank to get the valve timing right not realising that that causes valves to be bent

How do I retime my engine

The cam shaft should be keyed so the gear cannot be wrong. Look for a mark on the gear and one on the head. Line those up. On the crank shaft use the timing mark and guide and line up to TDC or 0 and put the chain back on.

line the TDC mark on the flywheel/crankcasing up , then the cam shaft marks paralell to the cylinder head mating surface then fit chain, fit chain tensioner, take plug out and turn by hand to make sure valves aren't knocking, **** squeeze bang blow! intake fuel, compression, ignition exhaust out

My sons 96 cutlass cl has no visable brake fluid leak but the pedal goes to the floor with no brakes what so ever have tried bleeding them no help and just replaced the master cyl no help either I'm...

It could possibly be a leaking wheel cyl in one of the rear drums. With all of the dust soaking up the fluid it is sometimes hard to notice the leak.

Any chance the valve spring has collapsed? Cam shaft thrust washers missing? Cam shaft bearing gone bad?

IDLE @ ABOUT 3000 RPM

Bottom bolts on carb loose. Not the mounting bolts. You have to take carb off to see them on the bottom of the carb.
