Question about Honda GL 1100 Gold Wing Motorcycles
If you have noticed the headlight and dash lights coming on slowly(fading on) you probably have a dirty contact base in the ignition switch. Remove the switch, put the key in the switch, turn it to the on position, press the three tabs on the base ,and the bottom of the switch should pull off easily. Typically dirt, grease, and copper will smear across the contacts shorting them out. If you take a new razor blade you can carefully shave/scrape the crud off and stop the shorting. Worst case scenario , you will have to buy a new contact base. Five years ago my bike quit at Mount Rushmore. I coasted two miles down the mountain to Keystone, parked in the shade, scraped the switch contacts clean with a pocket Knife, and have driven the bike since with out the power issues.
