Question about 1987 Yamaha FZ 600

1 Answer

I own a 1987 yamaha fz 600 air cooled motorbike, its started to blow what looks like a mixture of oil and petrol through the crankcase breather pipe going into the airbox, any ideas what this could be? i think it could either be the piston rings or maybe a too light oil. also would anybody be able to tell me what other engine would also fit into the frame? maybe an fzr or diversion, any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

I have the same bike and the same problem...the floats in 2 of the carberators were bad, and since there is no fuel shut off valve the cylinders and what ever else the fuel could leak into- did. change your crankcase oil and make sure the air lines that run underneath the fuel tank are not pinched or this could also cause the gas in the tank to "flood" out your carbs when cranking it over. also check that it is jetted for the area that you live in, most are factory set for the California area...

Oil pumping out of crank breather pipe oil smells of petrol also on my 1992 fzr 600

Hi, Raymond you may have carb overflow issues getting into the combustion chamber due to faulty float or needle and seat oil level readings are taken when the engine has reached normal operating temperature and the usual suspects are:
1. Overfilled oil tank dipstick reading should at or below full.
2. If the sight glass is full you are running to much oil.
3. Excessive blowby caused by worn out piston rings.
4. Piston rings never properly seated.
5. Faulty breather valve or system.
6. Pinched or clogged breather line/hose.
7. Clogged or failed oil filter.
8. Contaminated oil dirt-rust-water etc.
9. Excessive oil foaming.
10. Wrong oil type not designed for your bike.

Oil and fuel blowing out through top of motor in yamaha golf cart 4 stroke engine

Engine got to much oil in it? Worn engine allowing fuel down into engine diluting the oil and raising the oil level? Blocked engine breather, pressurising the crankcase. Oil change and clean the breather. Worth a try

Xj600s diversion 1996, oil in the airbox? Why?

First check to see if the oil level in your crankcase is too high. If you have a vacuum petcock malfunction (hole in the diaphragm) or if the fuel petcock is left in the prime position and a float needle sticks, then you get you get gas running into the cylinders, past the rings, and into the oil.
When you start your motorcycle the oil/gas mixture has no place to go, the crankcase is too full, and the mixture exits through the crankcase breather into the air box where it will ruin a paper air filter. Always turn your fuel petcocks off when not driving. If the petcock diaphragms are bad rebuild the petcock with K&L rebuild kits or replace the fuel petcocks with new ones. If the float needles in the carburetors are bad or sticking, take the carburetors apart, clean them, and replace any worn or damaged parts You will have to change your gasoline saturated oil for it will no longer properly lubricate your motor.

Hi, oil problems

With it sitting that long the fuel that was left in the bike probably drained into the cylinders and then down into the crankcase mixing with the oil. And the spark plugs should be a golden-brown, or a caramel color that means you are getting just the rite fuel-air mixture.

My 1998 suzuki katana turns on and stays on the it turns off plus sometimes while its running it throws what looks like a mixture of oil and gas threw one of the lines that comes from air filter

I guess you need a new ignition switch to cure your turning off problem, the pipe from air filter is probably the crankcase breather that vents pressure from engine in to air box, this will contain some oil mist

Oil come out the air cleaner

Too much crankcase pressure or the breather pipe is split/dosconnected. The crankcase breather goes into the rear of the air filter and the crankcase gasses are drawn in to the cylinder with the gas/air mixture and burned
