Yes it does. It should take about a quart of oil in the primary. Some primary covers have an oil level indicator hole at the very back of the primary just bit above the lowest point. The drain plug is underneath the primary. If you have an "oil level plug", remove it and add oil until it comes out of the hole. If you can't find a level hole, drain the primary and refill with one quart of oil

Drain plug is at base of primary case and when you refill it you fill it through the clutch inspection cover (derby) and just until the oil reaches the bottom of the clutch diaphragm spring.

Clutch is blue and chattering, also bike has a vibration at around 50 mph. i've changed primary oil, and motor oil and filter. no differance. any sugestions?

How do you know the clutch is blue unless you have had it apart. If it is blue it is overheated and you need to change the parts out for new ones. It is likely slipping if blued. Make sure it gets done right and adjusted properly when you rebuild it. Can be just as cheap to just buy the whole clutch as an assembly.

Recently bought a 2003 1200 sportster. Specifically asked the previous owner about shutting off petcock when not in use. He indicated it was not necessary as it had a carb drain feature. I've put...

Your 2003 Sportster should have been equipped with a vacuum operated petcock unless someone has changed it out. This is highly likely since the factory units were very prone to problems. To drain the primary, look for a pipe plug underneath the primary at the very back underneath the area of the clutch. Refill with one quart of H-D 20W50 SYN3 engine oil or any other suitable lubricant.

Where is the drain plug on a 2000 1200 sportster

It's probably not a plug. Lood for a short hose on the left side of the bike down low back behind the primary cover. It looks like it plugged onto the frame. It will probably have a different hose clamp than the rest of the hose connections. Simply pull the hose off and the oil runs out of the tank.

Good luck

2003 harley davidson sportster 1200 custom. runs fine shortly then dies with spurts of fire. the light stays on and if i pull the clutch when its still running, it goes back to normal idle and responds to...

It sounds like a fuel starvation problem since it's spitting back out of the carb. Check you fuel cap to see if the vent is working. Loosen the cap and ride and see if that makes any difference.

Also, if your bike is equipped with the original vacuum equipped petcock, there could be problem with this as well. I've seen them get holes in the diaphragm and I've seen cause a vacuum leak. Check the vacuum hose and diaphragm. You'll have to remove the petcock from the tank. Personally, I'd recommend that you change the petcock to a high quality manually operated petcock like a Pingel.

Good Luck

How hard is it to replace oil lines on my 01 sportster and what is the best oil line to use

they should still be fine, but if you are changing them, why not get the nice stainless steal sock ones, they look great and protect the rubber from foreign object damage.

Missfiring, banging on over run, starts after about 10 minutes

Weak or failing ignition coil and/or module will cause this, as will a flooding carb.
