I had replaced the belt & reset the belt light switch back to the "ON" position & repeated this procedure for 7-8+ times & the light still flashes. ???????? I replaced the belt last year & took it to a repair shop & they reset it & the light stayed on but didnot flash & it would run ok & 4 wheel drive would work fine untill the belt failed again. ??????? There must be a solution, surely?????

I did the 10 step reset process & it didn't work. I then checked my belt light switch continuity & found it defective. I connected the 2 wires on the belt light switch & gave it the "switched on mode" & then went through the 10 step method again & it still dosen't work. You said that it may be the "control module" or could it be something else that I could check?????

WRONG sequence!!!! You unplug the 2 pin (belt light switch) FIRST & then when you plug them back up, you plug the belt light switch LAST!!!!! I didn't need a control module & everything works great now!!!! Thanks

  • 2004 700 Belt light reset procedure.

    1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.

    2. Disconnect both sets of 5 pin connectors located above the CVT cover. Note: These connectors are located just beneath the shift handle on the right side of the 650; one is black and one is grey.

    3. Connect these 5 pin connectors to their opposite pairs (grey to black and black to grey).

    4. Turn the ignition switch ON.

    5. Disconnect the belt failure switch at the 2-pin connector above the CVT cover. (Note: Just follow the wires coming from the rectangular black box on the CVT Cover to locate this connector.)

    6. Observe the belt-warning lamp. It should be flashing at a 0.4 second interval for a few seconds then start to flash slower. Let the lamp flash for at least seven seconds.

    7. After seven seconds or more, turn the ignition switch off.

    8. Reconnect 5 pin connectors to their proper location (black to black, grey to grey).

    9. Connect the belt failure switch 2-pin connector (wires from CVT cover).

    10. Turn the ignition switch on to confirm that the belt warning light is not flashing. Retry this procedure if needed.

  • This was to reset the light is the belt had not tripped the switch from being loose.
If the belt was loose that the switch was tripped, then all you need to do is tighten the belt and reset the switch to "On".

This procedure is just if the belt light stays on after flipping the switch back to "ON", or it may have come on automatically at 100 hours to get you to return the machine to the dealer for inspection even though the belt switch is not tripped.

Yes, the solution is the 10 step method, according to the manuals.
While that is supposed to be for the timeout, it can also be tripped by the switch being turned off more than once. So do the 10 steps. If that does not fix it, then it could be the control module. But try this first.

Belt light is on need to reset so i can go more than 5 miles an hour 2004 kawasaki700 twin prarie

You might get better info in the sports section of Fixya or some other more appropriate catagory. You are listed under Cars and Trucks.

I would think the sensor would be touching the tensioner pulley or be on a roller pulley. The sensor probably detects the deflection in the belt and as the belt stretches it trips the sensor to tell you it is time to change belts. You may have a weak spring in the tensioner pulley or the tensioner may be frozen so that the belt may still be good; the tensioner my be bad.

I checked out a few of my fav manual sites. but no luck. esp since its copyrighted. few options, of course u can go to your fav kawi shop and pay 50 bucks for 1. OR get on Ebay, usually someone has one on CD that sells for anywhere between 5-10 bucks. I had 1 for my goldwing and i have 1 for my harley.
