Your speedo head is either bad or your speedo drive cable is bad. Remove the cable and check it. If it's good, then the speedo head is going bad.

Good Luck

Replaced input and output speed sensors for erratic speedometer. Now the speedometer remains at 0. Anyone have a suggestion on what else could be wrong?

input and out put speed sensors tell the TCM and the ECM the difference between engine rpms and transmission input roms so that the correct gear ratio can be selected
A speedo sensor reads the out put shaft (drive line ) shaft and refers to road speed for speed and odometer readings and to calculate the fuel consumption rate
it is possible that you have replaced the wrong sensor
Talk with an accredited transmission specialist shop and have the problem diagnosed

2002 road king speedometer works sometimes

Hi Anonymous, always check your instrument fuse before performing the next procedure, try cleaning your speed sensor located on top of the transmissions right side between the top cover and the chrome starter end cap on Twin Cams and on top of the engine case between the rear cylinder and the starter motor for Sportsters. Remove the the bolt that secures the sensor and pull it out of the transmission. Inspect sensor for obvious damage and repace if necessary. If sensor has no damage then wipe clean any obvious contamination like micro fiberous material with a clean rag and reinstall, torque bolt to 8 ft lbs. Next check the connector to the speedometer for correded, broken or loose pins/sockets. If your problems still exist try replacing your ignition relay if your year and model has one. Good luck and have nice day.

Possible speed sensor. I know the speed sensors are a problem with hondas. A new speed sensor is about $200 and can be easily replaced. It bolts to the top of the transmission on the firewall side. Do NOT buy an e-bay one. They are only about $30 but are junk

SPEEDOMETER DOSENT WORK

THERE IS A CABLE THAT GOES TO THE SIDE OF THE TRANSMISSION THAT TELLS THE SPEEDOMETER HOW FAST THE TRUCK IS GOING. INSIDE THIS CABLE IS A SMALL GEAR THAT IS MADE OF PLASTIC. SOMETIMES THIS GEAR GETS WORN OUT AND WILL NOT READ THE SPEED. I THINK THIS IS THE PROBLEM YOU ARE HAVING NOW. CHECK IT OUT AND LET ME KNOW. HOPE THIS HELPS. GOOD LUCK
