Question about 2000 Harley Davidson FLSTC Heritage Softail Classic

I just noticed on my 1991 softtail springer classic that when i cut either blinker on when i staighten up the blinker still blinks? i thought when u striaghtened up it was supposed to quit blinking!

Your bike does have a reed switch built into the speedo but to change it I think you have to buy a new speedo. Not sure about that. I have a complete turn signal troubleshooting guide that I can send you but you'll have to contact me directly. Turn signals not blinking


If it blinks on one side and not the other, then check for a burnt out light bulb or corroded lamp socket. If neither side blinks then it is probably the blinker relay or a blinker fuse.

2006 softtail springer what are the best products for oil and oil filter change


harley davidson have there own brand of oil you can use, but usualy only available from the dealer. I would recomend Penzoil, or Penrite 20W50, with a genuine harley oil filter.

1991 Suzuki Bandit blinkers come on but don't blink!


I think you need to match the entire set either way.....you may have damaged the LED ones because of the larger current from the other ones......they are voltage / current sensitive. OR you need a special LED module to place with the LEDS

many things can cause this ,if you change your seating postion ( lean forward / move backwards does it go away?....

front forks loose at triple tree,
new front / rear tire more aggressive tread than before,
front wheel loose,
worn head bearings,
bent rim,
loose spokes if any,
wrong tire pressures,
loose handle bars
,some new addition to change the handling of the bike , rear seat rest etc,

Needs a New Flasher. This is located in the center console somewhat near the ashtray.

You need to be sure it is a washer and not a shim. The washer(s) will go on the nut side of the axel outside of the fork, shims will go inside the fork to center the tire.

My blinkers are going off.


I had a SIMILAR problem for months. I thought the solenoid in the emergency blinker button was broken (because that was where the abnormal blinking would come from) but that wasn't the problem.

Take the top cover off of the steering column.

Remove the three screws from the underneath side of the column and remove the bottom cover.
(this may be a pain in the **** to get back on later!)

there is one screw on the top of the column that you must remove and then the whole blinker assembly will slide right off the top.

Disconnect the harnesses at the back of if it and take it to a workstation...here's where your problem is.

On the blinker side back side remove the cover screws and notice that the copper plate the blinker switch moves across is probably full of dirty grease that is probably preventing good contact or abnormal blinking. Take care to remove the grease from the plate and from between the different gaps along it's path.

Re-assemble and take care to push in a couple little switch/buttons when placing the blinker assembly back on the column.

I hope this helps. Since you are having a problem with irregular timing on your issue then, IN MY OPINION, you have something that must be making irregular contact. This really isn't too bad of a repair and if you'd rather just buy new parts (though I don't know why you would) it's about 60 bucks at autozone or probably around 15-20 at a U-pull-It type auto salvage.
