You have a bent shift fork. The engine needs to be removed from the frame then the bottom half of the engine center case gets separated from the top half. This allows access to the gears, shift drum and shift forks. Please rate my answer. Thanks.

they are supposed to downshift if the load gets too great , like climbing a hill and they do not have to be big hills . a lot depends on the load being carried .5 large adults works a vehicle harder than 1 adult and 5 children

I thought you ment tranny speed control till I read this part , if it doesn't show up go to autozone library that's where I got th Most transmissions also make use of an auxiliary circuit for downshifting. This circuit may be actuated by the throttle linkage the vacuum line which actuates the modulator, by a cable or by a solenoid. It applies pressure to a special downshift surface on the shift valve or valves.
The transmission modulator also governs the line pressure, used to actuate the servos. In this way, the clutches and bands will be actuated with a force matching the torque output of the engine.

Hard downshift on 2003 cadillac cts. When I coast the car without breaking the car jerks as it passes 20mph and 15 mph. It also happens when I gas the car. It feels like i'm running something over


actually you have to change transmission fluid every 75000 miles and this car have a dip stick it on the transmission pan you seek the professional help because they need to replaced the filter also and do the flash for bather performance

Is the back up switch connected to the shifting linkage of the automatic transmission on my 1988 ford bronco II


If you have the C5 trans, here is the info:

C5 Transmission
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  3. Remove the downshift linkage rod from the transmission downshift lever.
  4. Apply rust penetrant to the outer lever attaching nut to prevent breaking the inner lever shaft. Remove the transmission downshift outer lever attaching nut and lever.
  5. Remove the two neutral start switch retaining bolts.
  6. Disconnect the multiple wire connector.
  7. Remove the neutral start switch from the transmission.

To install:

  1. Install the neutral start switch on the transmission. Install the two retaining bolts.
  2. Adjust the neutral safety switch following the above procedure.
  3. Install the outer downshift lever and retaining nut, and tighten the nut. Install the downshift linkage rod with the retaining clips.
  4. Connect the wire multiple connector. Check the operation of the switch. The engine should start only with the transmission selector lever in N or P.

Probably a modulator, however check that the "bowden" cable is properly adjusted (this is the cable that does the "kickdown" and also goes to a vacum /valve.It is simple to adjust, basically with the engine turned OFF, check that the 2 pointers (like arrows) align, (one is on the cable). Being a merc it pays to have the tranny properly serviced, and its filter changed at least every 2 years though merc says 60,000k's. And the one thing that will kill a merc transmission is the WRONG oil, it has to be according to the spec sheet which is in your user manual.(lots of tranny shops use anything!)
Also check the dipstick for discolouration/and or burnt smell.

go out and step on pedal and manually downshift a gear if it drops correctly then it probably is tps or downshift is not set correct

that was old school , vehicles with the turbo 400 transmission are equipped with an ECM controlled downshift system , when vehicle is at speeds below 70 mph a forced (detent) downshift is possible by fully depressing the accelerator ,when the ECM detects a drop in manifold vacuum (high map sensor reading) the downshift control relay is energized by the ECM , the relay detects battery voltage to the detent solenoid in the transmission to open open an oriface to force the transmission to downshift ..... if yours is not working i would first check the downshift relay , under hood , picture is so bad i can't tell , looks like on the firewall more to the passenger side , next to fuel pump relay , if it needs more diag than that maybe you should get an estimate for repair from a trans shop or such , hope ya fix it , cheers .

Honda civic 2003 transmission


Its possible that your transmissions Shift Solonoids could be acting erratically, either because they themselves are faulty, or the transmission's ECU is faulty, or maybe even the wiring between the two is somewhat faulty.

However it is also possible that your transmission's Speed Governor is holding too much pressure and doesn't realize it needs to downshift when you start slowing down.

Thirdly it is also possible that your Torque-Converter lockup may be siezed, or the wiring feeding it may be faulty.

Transmission repairs are usually somewhat pricey, and difficult to pinpoint, and fix, and I'm sorry to say that most of these causes to your problem really can't be checked without pulling the transmission out of the car, and disassembling it to see what the problem is.
