Question about 2007 Yamaha XVS 650 Dragstar Classic

2 Answers

I have a 650 yamaha, 15.000 miles, when I start to pass another vehicle and give it a lot of gas it feels like my clutch is trying to slip and this also happens when my bike is cold if I take off to fast. Can this be adjusted or is my clutch going bad? I have a long trip planned an a few weeks and dont know if this can go out on the road, It does not seem to be to bad right now. THANKS

It's the clutch springs, they usually get weak at around the 10,000-15,000 mile mark.

Here is a link to where you can buy some replacement springs. Other stores have them also.

Adjust your clutch cable so that you have a bit of free play in the clutch lever. After adjustment, If the clutch engages (grips) at the very end of clutch lever travel then it might be time for clutch springs and plates.

1999 v star 650 seems when driving and give gas the motor runns faster but bike doesnt then seems to kick in what is the problem

99% sure its clutch slip... try ajusting the cable to the right gap, failing that its the cable itself or the clutch plates.

I AM NOT SURE OF YOUR QUESTION BUT I NEED TO KNOW HOW MANY MILES ARE ON IT..........NICE BIKE....THEY ARENT HARD TO ADJUST .(.IF IT IS ADJUSTABLE)..ON THIS MODEL YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO ADJUST THE CABLE..BUT IT COULD BE THAT THE CABLE IS STRETCHED...I HAVE SEEN THIS HAPPEN....ALSO WITH A LOT OF MILES YOU MAY NEED A CLUTCH...THE CABLE IS KINDA LIKE LINKAGE ON A VEHICLE...INSPECT THE CABLE AND LEVER ASEMBLY...IF LOOKS TO BE OK ADJUST CABLE FIRST...BEFORE YOU SPEND MONEY FOR CLUTCH REPAIR...THE CLUTCH JUST HAS A LOCK AND ADJUST NUT ON SOME MODELS....BUT SOME ARE NOT ADJUSTABLE.....ONLY AT CABLE.........HOPE THIS HELPS..............METALPOET.....

2003 yamaha 650 vstar clutch slipping?

This can happen if you used the wrong oil. Is the clutch cable or hydraulic operation. If cable then it may be dry or adjusted too much (needs a little free play at the lever. Not sure of your knowledge so starting with the basics. How many Kms has it done.

Can you adjust handlebars of yamaha 650 v star 2004 model. right side seems 1/2 inch closer to rider. Gives the illusion of going down road a little sideways. forks appear straight. i am buying this used...

Handlebars can be adjusted up and down, but I know of no way to adjust bars forward and back. I would check the levelness of the forks just to make sure that the motorcycle has not been in a front end collision.

Well i would say the clutches have sat dry to long. You may change the oil and it solve the problem but more than likely new clutch discs.

How do you adj this cutch it just started sliping 2006 yamaha roadliner s 18000 miles

if it is cable operated you want to adjust at the clutch perch (where the lever is mounted on) to where you have about an 8th inch of play before you feel the tension of the clutch in the lever. if that dosent do it change your oil if you havent done so already and if that dosent do it then the clutch is probably toast.

Clutch issues

Yes, just bleed it at the clutch lever. 11mm wrench in the tool kit, put a little airline on the fitting, crack it open and give the lever one pump, good as new. You can do it a number of times without having to add more fluid. When I ride mine hard and the bike really gets warm, mine needs to be bled about every 100 miles or so.
