There are two cables on your throttle, or there should be anyway. One is the throttle cable and the other is the idle cable. The purpose of the idle cable is safety. It pulls the throttle closed in the event the throttle return spring breaks.

To replace either or both cables, First loosen the cable adjusters of both cables getting as much slack in the cable as possible. Then remove the two bolts that hold the switch housing halves together. Carefully lay the top half aside so you can get at the cables in the throttle sleeve. Work the cable ends out of the throttle sleeve and remove the barrel from the end of the cable of both cables. Now, the switch housing halves are free of the throttle sleeve.

Work the cable you intend to change out of the switch housing. Sometimes this can be difficult as they have a small expander that holds them into the housing half. Once you have this end out, you must disconnect the other end from the carb. In order to get the carb, you may have to remove the fuel tank and air filter assembly.

Install the new cable by reversing this removal procedure. When you install the throttle sleeve, put white lithium grease on the handlebar, inside the throttle sleeve, and around where the cables connect. Be especially careful not to pinch any wires when you reassemble the switch housings back together. Slide the throttle assemble towards the center of the handlebars as far as it will go and then back off about a half inch or so. Tighten the two bolts to secure the housing in position. Adjust the throttle cables so that they have just a bit of slack. If you get them too tight, the throttle will not work smoothly.

This job must be done correctly. Failure to do the job correctly could cause the motorcycle to become uncontrollable resulting in serious injury or death. If you have any doubts in your ability to perform this job properly, it's best to pay someone with the experience to do it. Your health and life is worth much more than the cost of having the job done.

Brake light not working on 2007 ultra classic foot pedal only

Sounds like you've got a bad front brake light switch. This little switch is inside the right handlebar switch housing. You can replace the switch by removing the throttle cables and taking the housing apart. Unless Harley has changed something, the switch is not difficult to change but the old wires have to be resoldered onto the new switch.

Good luck

How to replace right hand throttle grip 2003 ultra

Remove the switch housing screws and spread it away. Loosen the adjuster locknuts on the throttle cables and adjust cables in, this will allow you to lift the cable off of the throttle grip. Be care full not to lose the barrels.( the small round caps on the end of the cable.) Assembly is the reverse. Make sure to check proper operation of the throttle before starting the bike.

My 2003 harley ultra classic has cruise control that stops working after 5 to 10 seconds after I try use it. Whats wrong

On your throttle cables on the left side of the bike at front of the bike just ahead of the gas tank you will see a "bulge" where the connector is for cable position/sensor plugs in. check this connection first, clean it, etc. plug things back in and test it.
Please post and let us know if this helps.
