Question about 2006 Suzuki GSX 750 F (Katana)

1 Answer

Can't get bike to start. It has been sitting up for a year. The battery was low but almost started the bike using my truck to jump it off, but the cables slipped loose and made contact with the frame then nothing would happen no lights, nothing. I put a new battery on it and changed the fuses. When I put the key in the ignition still nothing happens. What else could posssible be the problem?

When I put the bike in reverse, it starts to move, then stops. it will not do any thing else until I put the bike in neutral

Your reverse is battery powered I would suggest the battery is shot.

You could try charging it and see it that helps but if the battery is nearing or over 2 years old I would get a new one. Remember to disconnect negative lead first to remove battery and connect positive lead first to refit. Also keep in mind do not use a car charger on a bike battery and never use a charger with more than 1 amp output. Bike batteries survive best on low current chargers. Final point never jump start your battery from another vehicle or other source. Good luck

Have a crf 230f honda how can i jump start it in middle of nowhere if battery dies

I am not sure why others are recommending a carburetor rebuild - that has nothing to do with "how to jump start a CRF230F..."

If riding with others (as you should ride with at least one other person), you can disconnect and remove the battery from their bike, connect it to yours, and use your electric start. This is, of course, if the other rider has a battery in their bike and you have a 10MM wrench to remove the side covers and and battery cables.

If alone, or other riders have bikes without batteries (2-stroke machines), do the following:
* Put the bike in 3rd gear (1st and 2nd gear are typically too low of a gear ratio for jump starting to successfully work. The rear wheel will simply lock up and slide.)
* With the clutch lever pulled in, start pushing the bike as fast as you can (it is easier to do this on part of the trail / road with a slight to moderate decline)
* With the bike rolling as fast as you can get it going, hop on the bike and then let the clutch lever out. With the rear drive wheel connected to the transmission/crankshaft/connecting rod and piston via the chain, the piston will compress the fuel/air mixture, the spark plug will ignite, and then the engine should fire up and be running.

Springer classic clicks when trying to start

Make sure the battery is fully charged. Contrary to what some people will tell you, Harley batteries are not fully charged when shipped to dealerships. I work at a dealership and it normally takes a full 8 hour shift to charge a new battery that fits your bike. The clicking sound in normally caused by a low battery. Good luck!

Haven't run the bike in a while, won't start. I have run the battery down trying. Where do I hook up to "jump start" from a (non running I am told) car?

Personally, unless I was stranded somewhere, I wouldn't jump start the bike. I'd rather recharge the battery and try to start the engine again. But, you may wish to find out why the engine is not starting rather than continue to run down the battery or take a chance of damaging electronic components with a voltage spike. You didn't tell me what year and model the bike was nor whether it's carbureted or fuel injected. If's it's been sitting for an extended period of time, the fuel system may be gummed up due to the fuel evaporating and leaving the gummy residue to stop up the fuel passageways. But, if you still want to jump start the engine, connect the jumper cable directly to the battery in the bike, positive side first to positive post of the battery. Connect the negative from the car's frame or engine to the bikes engine or frame last. This prevents a spark and the possibility of the battery blowing up your face. I've had it happen before and it ain't fun.

Good Luck

Where is the battery on a 2007 Honda shadow sabre located? Thank You,

The battery is located bellow the seat, I believe that year is on the right hand side if you are sitting on the bike. It has a plastic cover over it, sorta looks like a bubbled triangle above the exhaust. It has 2 plastic clips that pop in to rubber grommets. I'm not sure on that year, you may need the key to unlock. Some older models also have a phillips (+) screw holding the side covers on.

Be carefull jump starting it with a car, you can damage the bike.

You can also push start the bike. put it in second gear, hold in the clutch with the key in the on position with the emergency switch in on position. Push it to about 5 miles an hour then jump on and let off the clutch. This is a dangerous move for a novice, I recomend you not try this unless you have to. It wont hurt the engine.

Bike will not start or stay running on a full charge battery/bought brand new battery, still same promblem, jump bike off, will crank ,ride bike for 30 min. park bike, leave bike running, lights start's to...

sounds like the problem is your battery is not charging when you are riding. The most common cause is a faulty regulator / rectifier. Contact a motorcycle wreckers for these parts, or your yamaha dealer.
Easy way to test is, when your bike is running, and the lights start to dim, before the bike shuts down, using a volt meter, test the voltage at the battery terminals, should be about 14V. If faulty rectifier,no charge going in to your battery, then the reading will be low, about only a few volts. If you dont have a volt meter, then any mechanic shop can do this test for you. best to have this done before buying any parts.

Bike runs fine then stalls when ya try starting again it wont as battery is flat is this common on xs 1100 1980 bike will start no trouble via a jump start

If you have a voltage tester you will probably find a low reading on your battery. It takes a big powerful battery in excellent condition to start that monster, that's why it starts right away when you jump it...Good Luck to you !...Tim

2003 bmw r1150rt was running bat was low jumped started let run for afew minute started to run hot shutoff now won,t start no spark ,turn over good, changed oil

You could have fried the electronics by jump starting the bike. BMW do not recommend jump starting. They only suggest a new battery. You will need a diagnostic check. You have probably fried one or two diodes that sit under the tank. Not too expensive but until check is done you cannot tell.
