The choke adds more fuel, so you might have a fuel issue. If it won't idle, but you can rev it up and it runs okay then, you need to have the pilot jets cleaned up. (I would go through the entire carb)

I have a 2004 yamaha 250 virago. That will not run with choke off.

Take the carburetor apart and clean it . Make sure the slow jet is clear. Be sure to shoot cleaner through the carburetor body so all the pathways are clear.

1995 Yamaha XV 250 Virago Is there a need to adjust the choke (start) cable? If so, how is it adjusted. I think I'm having a problem with my choke and was planning to replace the cable and starter...

The problems with a plunger style choke happen when the rubber on the bottom becomes deformed and does not seal or the spring does not push the plunger down hard enough, or the cap breaks so the plunger is not pushed down hard enough. If you put your finger over the hole and the bike runs properly your bike is running on choke. You have to block the hole deep inside the carb to shut off the choke. I assume the original problem was that the bike would not idle .If this is the case, take the carb apart remove the slow jet and clean the jet and the carb body out so fuel will flow at idle. This should fix your no idle problem.

Hi, Dma942 and the usual suspects are:
1. Extremely lean fuel mixture.
2. Dirt, rust, water, or ethanol sludge in the fuel system.
3. Sticky throttle cables.
4. Multiple carburetors not in synchronization.
5. TPS sensor out of adjustment or faulty.
6. Wrong spark plugs for the type of service.
7. Throttle bodies not in synchronization (FI)
8. Faulty O2 sensor.
9. Clogged, stuck, or faulty IAC valve.
10. Aftermarket components not compatible with ECM.

Hi i have a 2004 virago 250 can you help me get side covers off to see tool kit.thay feel firm & i dont want to break them also do you know where i can get a manual thanks heaps

The side panels are PULL OFF. There is a spigot near each corner (i.e. 3) that go through rubber grommets to hold it on
Pull the corners away from the bike

Ride safe

2006 Virago 250 carburator problem

try removing the spark plugs . if there dirty clean the with a wire brush.. check the gaps on them are the same . might not be a bad idea to get new one.. if that doesent work its probably that your carbs are dirty or blocked.. if you leave your bike laid up too long the unburnt feul in the carbs evaporates and th additives in it remain and turn to goo.... a couple of hours work at your local garage.. wont cost much.. dont mess with them if your not sure
