look on dip stick you should see cross hatched area with add oil or oil full mark.if you wipe oil dip stick with a clean paper towel and dip stick look dry no sign of oil add little oil at a time see if oil level reach add oil mark or the full mark.if oil is low. low oil light will turn on if bulb is blowed but if dip stick look dry oil level could be low,add little bit at a time dont over fill.

Hi, yeh I just bought a vt 250 f 1985 today and there is a cap on the oil filler, but it does not have a dip stick. can you tell me what the exact amount of oil should be.Thanks

There is a small glass window to see the oil level though the side cover, it should also have the volume marked near it .
Change the oil regularly in those, some had big end problems.

Won't tick over

Depends how mechanically minded you are, basics to start are: strip and clean carbs, put fresh fuel in the tank (remove old fuel first) change spark plugs, oil, oil filter and air filter.

How much gear lube do i put in the crank case of my 93 yz 250?

There is always a dip stick in the crank case to check the oil level. On the dip stick you will find two marks for Min and Max oil levels. The oil should never be more than the Max level and never below the Min level.

What oil grade do I use in my 20hp huskavarna riding mower

use a good grade of automotive engine oil which is called 10w30 weight.

measure the amount of oil that you drain out so you will know approximately how much new oil to put in. then check your dip stick and adjust to get the exact amount of oil.
