That depends really does it have good compression coz if not it could be something serious.

    It appears that the compression is OK. I have a mechanic looking at it now but I wanted to have an idea of the possible (financial) damage. How would I know if the compression is not OK?

$189 on ebay. I thought $950 was a little steep. They have after market suspensions for your bike too. Check it out.

IV A PROBLEM WITH MY 91 SUZUKI DR 650 I JUST FITTED NEW STARTER CLUTCH AS I THOUGHT THIS WAS MY PROBLEM BUT IT ISNT,WHEN YOU HIT THE START BUTTON TO START THE BIKE THE SPROCKET BEHIND THE FLY DOESNT SEEM...

Sounds like your starter solenoid is not engaging. Try tapping it with a dead blow hammer or a hammer and block of wood (gently! Not to hard!) If it bumps over that is your problem. Also check all connections to solenoid and starter.

The whirring noise you are hearing is your starter motor but your bendix gear is not engaging.

Hope this helps!

sounds like either you have a discharged battery or loose battery connections...check the connections for tightness and try charging the battery

Suzki 500 running on just one piston

Is it froze up ? Are you getting spark out of the plug? Look for the obvious first. Check the spark plug and wiring. If the plug is firing. Then it is in the piston.

95 DR 650 running rough

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, a couple of things to explore/consider and/or try:
  • compression test;
  • check/replace sparkplug;
  • check timing;
  • rebuilt carbs;
  • check for possible air/vacuum leak.
A remote possibility is the regulator causing an increase in voltage making the CDI erratic or shuts down in any RPM above idle.

Pls post back result(s). Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Engine

I am told by mechanics that the two engines have many parts in common. Too many to list was the reply I got. I am not sure which parts are NOT the same though(?) Try comparing microfiches at OEM parts dealers online. A comparison of Suzuki part numbers will help. Note: the DR650 has a chain final drive, the LS650 is belt driven, so at least some of them are NOT identical. Hope this helps!
