. I need to replace the ignition switch on my 1995 g20 sports van

This could be a challenge for a novice so if you don't feel comfortable with your ability, seek help from a trusted shop.
You will need some special tools to get the job done. Steering wheel puller, lock ring tool, phillips screwdriver, torx bit #30, flathead screwdriver, sockets/socket wrench, snap ring pliers.

First thing is to take the neg. battery cable loose. The airbag is located on the steering wheel and attached with 4 #30 torx headed screws from the back side. Remove and unclip the airbag and horn connections from the module. Remove the steering wheel nut with the 13/16 socket wrench or equal. Affix the steering wheel puller to the steering wheel--remove same. Affix lock ring removal tool and depress lock ring. Remove snap ring from base of lock ring on steering shaft. Remove 2 phillips head screws from lock ring located at approx. 11:00 o'clock and 7:00 o'clock of the lock ring. Remove lock ring.
Now remove the turn signal switch. It is attached with 3 phillips screws. There is also a small phillips screw holding the turn signal indicator lever in place. remove the screw and bracket on the indicator then remove the 3 screws holding the switch. The turn signal switch should be able to be pulled out enough to access the screw holding the ignition switch in place. Don't get too aggressive with it but gently pull it out enough to get in there.
On the right side if the ignition pot is a couple of copper contacts that are in a plastic holder. These are for the buzzer that tells you your key is in the ignition. It pulls straight out with little effort. Locate the screw and Remove--it will be about 2-3 " long and it is what holds the ignition switch in place. You should be able to pull the switch assy. out of the column at this point. Replace with new switch and reinstall the holding screw. put the contacts back in if you want it to buzz when you leave the key in or have it on ACC. It won't hurt anything if you leave it out to avoid the buzzer.
Reinstall everything as removed making sure to put the steering wheel back on straight and tighten nut to proper specs.
You can rent the special tools needed most of the time from auto parts stores, see them for the details or conditions-(Auto Zone, Advance, O'reilley) just to name a few that have loan-a-tool.

What is the proper tool to remove rear wheel cassette from specialized CrossTrail to replace a spoke?

You need a freewheel/cassette removal tool. Here's a link to Park Tools page (great quality tools at reasonable prices) http://www.parktool.com/category/freewheel-cassette There are several different types to fit different styles. My usual method is to remove the quick release skewer, place the tool on the freewheel/cassette, put the skewer back on to hold the tool in place (skewer should be just a little loose). Put the tool side of the wheel down and clamp it in a vise. Then grab the wheel with your hands and twist it sharply (not slow and steady) counter-clockwise. Good luck, Vote if you found this helpful. Al K

How do i remove just the steering wheel in a jetta

You'll need to remove the upper and lower trim panels, then remove the aribag module using a special tool (dealer can tell you what tool). Then there's a large nut holding the steering wheel on to a splined shaft. remove the nut and pop it off.

How to change the turn signal/wiper on the steering column

Its not to bad of a job. But there are some special tools involed. You will need to remove the steering wheel. Then the air bag coil. then the steering lock plate. Then the switch is just bolted on to the colume with torx 20 screws. There is a special tool to remove the steering wheel, it is called a bolt grip puller. There is a special tool to compress the steering lock plate to be able to remove the retainer to take it off. A simple pair of snap ring pliers will get your air bag coil off. Sounds like a big job but not bad at all if you have the tools. If you never plan on doing it again. I may be cheaper to have some one with tools do it compaired to going out and buying tools you may never use again.

Is there an easy way to install a new Turn signal switch w/cruse control?

Hello mfischett: My name is Roger and I will answer your question for you. If you have the proper tools the job is easy. If you do not have them you will end up breaking things. You will need to remove the steering wheel. to do this requires the tool to remove the air bag. You will need the tool to pull the steering wheel. Remove the column cover. To remove the multi - function switch you will need a tamper proof torq bit tool. These are special tools. Should you not have these tools I would have someone else do the job that have the proper tools.
Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the quality of your answer. This way we can tell your answer was of help. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

Can't get the steering wheel off of my 99 vw beetle the book is telling me there is a sping holding it but I can't seem to feel it in the wheel? any suggestions I need help on getting this thing out...

First disconnect the battery cables. 2. wait approx 3-5 minutes then There are 3 bolts holding the steering wheel on in the back of the wheel. Locate and remove. After that Be EXTREMELY CAREFUL on disconnecting the airbag plugs. After you remove that there will be a huge bolt in the middle remove that. Then go to an auto parts store and ask for a crowfeet steering removal tool. Then put the screws through the holes. 1 on top other bottom. then put the big screw through the middle and turn it counterclockwise until you hear a pop. After you hear a pop the wheel will be disconnected. Be very careful not to damage the clockspring. The wheel is now disconnected.

Changing front brake pads

You shouldn't need to remove the calipers altogether just to replace the pads. You have remove the split pins or retaining springs on the old pads, then prize back the caliper pistons enough to remove them. Then push the pistons back some more enough to get the new pads in. Then reassemble and test.
