Question about 1999 kawasaki ZX-6R Ninja

When i turn the handle bars left and right on my zx67 it seems to stick when it is in the straight ahead position. i think it may be the bearings in the neck. if it is, how easy is it to get to them so i can replace them.

I got a 1989 big bear it pulls to the right i put new tie rid ends and upper and lower balk joints in pulled cv axel it seems to be ok steering bearings seem fine also anyine have any ideas


Try aiming the handle bar straight and pull some kite string across the rear wheel , lightly touching the sidewalls of the tire. With the length of the string pulled across the front tire, adjust the outer tie rod so as to make front tire lightly touch the string. That should square the front tire to the back tire. Once the front and rear are squared, adjust tie rod in 1 turn for a slight negative toe. Do both sides while making sure to keep the handle bar straight during string and adjustment. That should help.

Power steering jumping off straight ahead position


Make sure the power steering fluid level is at the appropriate level.
Also, if you haven't changed the fluid according to the manual, it may be time. Let the mechanic know your observation before changing the fluid.

Zigzag on my elna air electronic has stopped working. All I get is a straight line


good chance that the needle bar bearing has siezed up or that the spring which pulls the needle bar back to centre has broken. If you are mechanically minded you should be able to remove the top cover and take a look down onto the bearing. Two screws hold the top cover down and you need to wiggle it around a bit to the left to get it off past the bobbin winder, then tip it backwards around the carry handle. Some of the later Air electronics have a circlip on the left handle side which just slides off easily so you can remove the carry handle and then get the top cover off fully. To check the spring first, set the machine stitch width to 4 and select the zig zag stitch on the stitch selector. Make sure the needle bar is in its highest position, now push it to the right and release, it should move smoothly back to the left if the spring is working.
If the spring is there and the bearing is just gunked up, then you can work it free with some TriFlow oil, a long q tip or eyedropper to apply and lots of patience and careful working of the needle bar back and forward to free up its movement. Sometimes a bit of heat from a hairdryer will help this too, just be careful not to apply it to any plastic components, shield them.

Steering Problem


Steering neck bearings could be worn. Jack the bike up so that the front wheel is off the ground. Turn steering side to side, if it seems to stick in the middle,(in the riding straight position) then bearings need to be replaced.
Also check swing arm bolt is tight and axle bolts.

Motorcycle revs up when handle bars are turned


What kind of motorcycle is it? does it use 2 cables? if so, the idle cable is probably too tight. there should be an 1/8 in free play when bars are straight. the throttle should snap back after u turn it wide open and let go in all positions.

Front brake when pressed has sever wobble from left side


Check your tire pressure and increase to 35 PSI (front and rear). If you have over 20,000 miles on your bike your may want to replace your wheel bearings (front and rear). Short wheel bearing life is common on GL1200 models. You should also consider tightening your steering neck bearings. Loose neck bearings is a common problem on any motorcycles. Disassemble the upper triple clamp far enough to turn the steering head nut and tighten it just to the point of binding and loosen it just enough so the bar turns smoothly with out binding. Most mechanics are to lazy to make the adjustment during the 600 mile check up. If you notice bumpy or ratcheting when you turn the handle bar from lock to lock and a tendency for the handlebars to stop or gravitate to the straight ahead position then you need to replace the steering head bearings in the frame neck. One or all of the things listed above can or will contribute to the condition you describe. Consider a thorough inspection and repair of all the necessary issues before riding this season.

Whenever I drive I continue to hear a loud roaring noise. Is this wheel bearing problem or is it something else


Quite often it is a bad wheel bearing, a lot of chevy's are notorious for them. A wheel bearing will usually create a growling type noise that is more prominent at around 40-60MPH. If its a wheel bearing you should notice a change in pitch when turning in one direction, for example if you have a bad right side wheel bearing it will be noisy driving straight ahead, then get louder when turning LEFT. If you turn right the noise softens. The weight distribution of the front end will be greater on the right side when turning left. Of course the works in the opposite direction. If the noise remains constant going straight and turning it could be a bad tire. Visually check the tire for pressure and bulges in the side wall. You didn't mention what type or model vehicle you have, because in some cases the rear wheel bearing could be causing the noise.

How do i tighten the steering tube? the front wheel can turn left/right while the handle bars are straight ahead.


mcdevito75 here, There may be a bolt on top of the handle bars you can tighten, or a clamp just under the handle bars you can tighten, this clamp may also be on the shaft just above the wheel.
