Just enough pressure that the front and rear of the motorcycle drop together , when you bounce on the seat. If the front drops first when you bounce it might wash out on a corner. If the backdrops first when you bounce on the seat , the rear will tend to skid out on a corner. Set your front and rear shocks to drop together , that is best for extreme riding conditions (you never know when an extreme riding conditions will surprise you.)

A lot of mounts/rubbers are universal, you need the width, hole size and eye size. You can use a small ruler to measure these and get a mental picture of what you need, or better still, draw a picture of whats left of rubber or whats needed, and approach a large auto store and they have parts catalogue with pictures and dimensions. Even take old sample for ID would help

Hi, Jfrdmon here are some options for lowering your bike depending on your needs and wallet:
1. Rear shock lowering kit.
2. Front fork lowering kit.
3. Shorter rear shocks.
4. Shorter front forks.
5. Thinner padded seat.
6. Lower profile tires.
Please be aware that some of these options or a combination of options will require a shorter kickstand or your stock one modified.

Ive got a gl1100 1982 with air front suspension q-what is the best way to change the front fork to a convensional spring fork and what forks would be the best ?

Hello and thanks for the question,
Your 1982 GL1100 has air assist type of suspension. It has springs in the front as well as the air pressure. This is a heavy bike and the front forks are marginal at best. I have had great results from installing progressive suspension springs and moving up to a heavier fork oil (20wt ) to keep the bike from diving so far during braking.

www.progressivesuspension.com

You should look at having the forks rebuilt with these parts and you will find that the bike handles much better than before.
The springs that are in the bike are old now and should be updated with new style parts.

Thanks and I hope that this helps.

Replase seal rear shocks 1982 goldwing still leaks fluid what did i do wrong

Seals can become fish-mouthed (if the seal twisted one one side)you would probably have to do them new again. If the shock was scarified or rusty seals get ruined quickly. How much air pressure is applied can also blow them out if its to much.
